Going back home? Introducing family foods? Returning to work? Feeling discomfort?

⏰ Whenever you need help with breastfeeding, support should be there for you.

Skilled breastfeeding support should be available for all women from pregnancy and for as long as they choose to continue breastfeeding. 🤱 While we recognise that Vanuatu's health system may not yet have the resources to provide this level of support to every mother, we hope women are empowered to make informed choices about feeding their babies and are able to access support where it is available.

Breastfeeding can provide many benefits for both mother and baby, and we encourage women who are able and choose to breastfeed to do so. At the same time, we know that breastfeeding is not possible for everyone. Whether due to health, work, personal circumstances, or other challenges, it's okay. There are other safe options available, and what matters most is that both mother and baby are healthy, supported, and cared for. ✨

And mamas, while you're looking after your little ones, don't forget to look after yourselves too. 💜

In May, World Vision in Vanuatu Strengthening Resilience in Vanuatu Schools project successfully delivered two 4-day trainings on School-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (SBDRR) and Education in Emergencies (EiE) from 5–8 May and 18–21 May 2026, in partnership with Ministry of Education & Training, Vanuatu 🇻🇺

The workshops brought together school principals, teachers, handymen, and school council representatives from 19 schools across Malekula to strengthen school preparedness and resilience.

Participants gained practical skills in:
-Hazard mapping and risk assessments
-Emergency drills and simulations
-Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)
-School grant management and preventative maintenance
-Developing School Disaster Management Plans

Having already reached schools in Shefa and Sanma provinces, this initiative now continues to strengthen resilience across Malampa Province, helping schools better prepare for and respond to emergencies and disasters.

The country’s main referral hospital needs to be expanded as wards are being overcrowded due to population growth, putting pressure on patient care.

Shortage of beds and inadequate space at the Vanuatu National Hospital (VNH) Maternity Ward recently forced some mothers to sleep on the floor, as there were only 28 beds. Nine mothers whose babies are in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) were moved to a different building to make room for new admissions.

Acting Manager for Nursing Services, Blaise Batsari Tabi, said moving patients to the new space is a short-term plan to ease overcrowding until a permanent solution is found.

Babies are born every day at the hospital. A total of 398 newborns were recorded last month, and more than 90 so far this month. Mr. Tabi stressed that while births keep rising, the ward’s capacity remains limited.

Dorothy Grace sees her wheelchair👩🏾‍🦼‍➡ and smiles. ✨

For the 11-year-old girl from Paunangisu on Efate, the wheelchair is much more than a piece of equipment – it is a doorway to independence and participation.

Dorothy cannot walk. For years, her mother, Jessica, and the rest of the family did everything they could to support her. They regularly massaged her muscles and used a pram brought from Australia by her father to help move her around.

As Dorothy grew older, everyday life became increasingly difficult.

“Before, I was feeling so sorry for Dorothy because she was mainly staying at home,” Jessica recalls.

Simple activities that many families take for granted, such as going to church, attending community events, or spending time outdoors, became challenging. Jessica often stayed home with Dorothy, missing out on social activities herself.

Everything changed when Dorothy received a wheelchair. During a recent check-up, specialists assessed her needs and provided her with an adjustable wheelchair.
