PacLII is proud to partner with the Tuvalu Government. On 1 September 2025, an MOU was signed establishing a joint commitment between Tuvalu and the University of the South Pacific for the sustainability of PacLII. The MOU grants PacLII formal authorisation to publish the laws of Tuvalu and recognises PacLII's essential role in supporting access to legal information across the region.

PacLII is the only integrated online resource providing legal materials across the Pacific in one portal. Its full text search improves accessibility and comparability of legal policies and precedents, strengthening a Pacific jurisprudence.

Last month, the PacLII team and a delegation from the Pacific Islands attended the Law via the Internet 2025 Conference in Sydney, hosted by the Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII).

Co-presented by Ephraim Ruddley, PacLII's Assistant Editor, and Pauline Kalo, Supreme Court Librarian and Archivist for the Judiciary of the Republic of Vanuatu, the presentation told a story about the collaborative activities between PacLII and the Judiciary to enhance access to justice, a project supported by the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). The second paper, presented by Kym Freriks, focused on โ€˜๐€๐œ๐œ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐‚๐จ๐ง๐ฌ๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐๐š๐ญ๐ž๐ ๐’๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ž๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐๐š๐œ๐ข๐Ÿ๐ข๐œ ๐ˆ๐ฌ๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐๐ฌโ€™, outlining PacLIIโ€™s ongoing work to improve access to accurate and up-to-date laws across the region.

The Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute (PacLII) is delighted to acknowledge the commitment of the Papua New Guinea Department of Justice and Attorney General (DJAG) through its contribution of K150,000 per year for the next five years to support PacLII in continuing to provide free and open access to legal information across the Pacific.

The official signing of the Memorandum of Agreement took place during the recent Pacific Islands Law Officersโ€™ Network (PILON) 44th Annual Meeting at APEC Haus in Port Moresby. At the event, Dr. Eric Kwa, Secretary of DJAG, presented a cheque of K150,000 to the University of the South Pacific (USP) Professor Afshin Akhtarkhavari, Head of Law, School of Law and Social Sciences. Also present during the signing were Dr. Wilfred Golman, USP Senior Law Lecturer; and Ms. Liliviwa Baleimatuku, PacLII Manager Editor.

This partnership marks an important step forward in strengthening regional collaboration to support justice, transparency, and the rule of law across the Pacific.
