Return & Earn Recycling Initiative

01 October 2026 - For years, Fiji’s grassroots recyclers have worked on the ground, collecting and recovering materials that would otherwise end up as waste. Now, for the first time, their experiences will be...

From January to August 2025–2026, Return & Earn has:

💰 VT12.7 million returned to communities
♻️ 2.53 million cans and plastics collected
🤝 4,286 customer transactions
🌱 Strong growth in both Port Vila and Santo

But behind every number is a person, a family, a small income opportunity and a cleaner community.

From Korman in Port Vila to Tangara in Santo, people are choosing to turn waste into opportunity — one can, one plastic and one community at a time.

This is more than recycling.

It is about creating value, empowering communities and building a cleaner Vanuatu. 🇻🇺

Our Voice, Our Experience, Our Pacific

Today was a really meaningful day for me and the Return & Earn team as we joined the Circular Policy Co-Design Workshop & Training here in Port Vila.

It was a great opportunity to share what we are experiencing on the ground — the challenges, the small wins, and what recycling really looks like for our communities in Vanuatu.

For me, it is important that when we talk about the future of recycling in the Pacific, we also listen to the people who are already doing the work every day. Our island realities are different, and our solutions need to reflect that.

Grateful to be part of this conversation and to learn from other Pacific recyclers. 🌊♻️

We may be small, but our work and our voices can help shape something bigger for our Pacific.

Stronger Together Across the Pacific

We were pleased to meet with the Pacific Recycling Foundation team — Founder Amitesh Deo, PRF Co-Lead Ashwarya Chand and Manager – Special Projects John Wilson.

It was a great opportunity to share our experiences in recycling, community engagement and youth participation, and to explore how we can continue working together to strengthen recycling initiatives across the Pacific.

Small actions, shared knowledge and strong partnerships can create bigger change. 💚♻️

We Are the Pacific
We did not light the fires that warmed the sky,
We did not fill the air that made the oceans rise —
But we feel it in the tide that swallows our shore,
In the reef that grows pale where it bloomed before.

So we answer not with anger, but with open hands,
Gathering what was discarded across our lands.
A can at a time, a bottle, a choice —
The Pacific is speaking. Listen to our voice.

We return what was wasted, we earn what is owed,
We plant the future on this small, sacred road.
Not waiting for the world to finally see —
We are the solution. And the solution is free.
