🐾 WHY NYSRR? 🐾

We know it can feel like a leap of faith to adopt a dog you haven’t met first—and it’s definitely NOT for everyone. There are so many wonderful local rescues with pet fairs and adoption events where you can meet the dogs in person. ❤️

So what makes NYSRR different?

We take the time to get to know YOU. We may spend time interviewing you, learning about your dog experience, your lifestyle, and your family dynamics.

Why? Because we consider ourselves doggy matchmakers! 🐶❤️ We work hard to match the right dog to your needs—not simply the dog you may initially want.

And we’ve been doing it successfully for more than 20 years.

We may not have the largest volunteer presence on Long Island anymore, but one thing hasn’t changed:

🐾 BENTLEY IS ON LONG ISLAND! 🐾

Looking for a goofy, lovable, fun-loving companion? Well… come on down and meet Bentley! 💙 This handsome boy is officially on Long Island and settling into his foster home!

Bentley is about 2–3 years old, and sadly, most of his young life has been spent in boarding. He was pulled by another rescue and placed in a Louisiana kennel—where he waited… and waited… for an entire year. They never came back for him. 😔

When we were asked to help, of course we said YES! Bentley needed some medical care, but that chapter is now behind him. 🎉

And let us tell you about this boy—he is TALL, lanky, goofy and absolutely adorable! 😂 He is super sweet, loves other dogs, and has the energy of a puppy packed into a giant dog suit!

For the first time, Bentley is getting to experience the life he should have had all along—walks, running, swimming, playtime and doggy friends! 🐾💦

His foster cousins are wonderful, but they’re a little more mature and laid-back. Bentley is hoping to find some fun, energetic dog friends who are ready to PLAY! 🥳

If you're looking for a big, goofy boy with a huge heart and plenty of personality, Bentley might just be your guy! ❤️

Meet Chocolate Mousse & BlackBerry! 🐾🍫🫐

These two adorable pups were found abandoned in the woods by a Good Samaritan. When no other rescue stepped up, NYSRR said YES! ❤️

Now about 18 weeks old, they’ve had three sets of vaccines, are spayed/neutered, and are officially ready for their forever families!

🍫 Chocolate Mousse – sweet, lovable, and a teenage boy’s favorite!
🫐 BlackBerry – an easygoing little girl with a fabulous personality!

Both are sweet, gentle, sensitive, and super social. No bossy attitudes here—they play nicely with everyone and are wonderfully mindful pups.

They look mostly Lab to us, but since they were found as strays, we can’t say for sure. So we call them PDC Labs… Pretty Darn Close! 😂🐾

These babies have come a long way. Now they just need the best part of their story—a forever family! ❤️🏡 ❤️

☀️Drake is a gorgeous, goofy yellow Lab with the kind of personality rescues dream about. He greets every person, kid, and dog like they're his new best friend. Affectionate, easygoing, always ready for love or a good belly rub. He's been waiting far too long for a family to call his own.

☀️ Here's the honest, full picture: a routine vet check found a soft heart murmur, so we had him evaluated by a cardiologist to be thorough. The result was reassuring — a **mild, symptom-free heart valve finding**. Drake shows **no symptoms**, needs **no medication**, and His only ongoing care is a yearly echocardiogram — a simple check-up, similar to what many senior dogs get for all kinds of reasons.

That's the whole story. Drake isn't a medical case — he's a happy, healthy-acting boy with one small, well-monitored note in his file and a whole lot of love left to give.

He's not looking for a "special needs" home. He's looking for a family who wants a sweet, affectionate Lab and doesn't mind one extra vet visit a year. That could be you. 💛

She’s spent time in foster care with Keri Toth, where she’s blossomed into the kind of dog everyone hopes to find — easygoing, affectionate, and unbothered by much of anything. She’s good with cats, calm around chickens, and clearly comfortable with kids. Now a healthy, happy 49 pounds, Winnie is as easy-peasy as they come. She leans right into you for a hug and just soaks up every bit of love and attention she gets — this girl was made for cuddling on the couch.
