The Grand Ho Tram has officially announced that it will be the host for the 41st Annual Convention of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), scheduled to take place from May 24th to May 28th, 2026.

This marks a historical milestone as it is the first time Vietnam and Southeast Asia have been selected as the destination for one of the world's most important professional boxing conventions. The IBF Convention is a key global event, bringing together senior leaders, legendary world champions, promoters, and boxing officials from over 60 countries.

Within the framework of the convention, delegates will discuss and make strategic decisions regarding competition rules, ranking updates, athlete safety standards, as well as professional boxing development orientations, confirming the IBF's vision in increasing connections with emerging markets.

The IBF is one of the largest boxing organizations in the world; therefore, cooperating and building a long-term relationship with them holds great significance for the future. We expect to be able to bring professional boxing championships to Ho Tram; that is the vision we aim for when developing cooperative programs like this.

Located about a 2-hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City, The Grand Ho Tram possesses the advantage of pristine beaches, private spaces, and a large-scale tourism and entertainment ecosystem. Selection by a prestigious international organization like the IBF shows the increasingly clear attraction of this destination on the regional event map, contributing to the promotion of local tourism, boosting trade and services, and enhancing Vietnam's position in its high-quality tourism development strategy.

INFORM VBO FOR ALL OVERSEAS FIGHTS AND PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS

Recently, 2 Vietnamese boxers fought in Korea. The contract included the name of the opponent. However the Korean side replaced it with another opponent to fight the Vietnamese boxer instead in breach of the contract. This is not only unprofessional but also dangerous. Unfortunately, this kind of situation happens often and visiting boxer is clearly taken advantage of. The commission in charge of the event was KOREA BOXING ASSOCIATION. VBO is careful when establishing a working relationship with overseas commissions and avoid working with any organization that fails to meet international standards. VBO strongly recommends all Vietnamese boxers to inform VBO of any overseas fights so that we can ensure your rights are protected. This applies to both exhibition and professional events.

2026 IBF CONVENTION IN VIETNAM?

On June 3rd, VBO President Dr. Lim Song attended 40th IBF Convention in Atlantic city, USA. There, Dr. Song made a formal proposal to host 2026 IBF Convention in Vietnam.

The global convention bring together 300~400 experts in the professional boxing industry across the world.

Hosting a Global Convention for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) in Vietnam would offer a multitude of benefits, not just for the boxing community but for the country as a whole.

1. Elevating Vietnam's Boxing Profile:
Global Recognition: Hosting a major IBF event would significantly raise Vietnam's standing in the international boxing world. It would put the country on the map as a serious contender for future top-tier boxing events and potentially world title fights.

Showcasing Local Talent: It would provide an unparalleled platform for Vietnamese boxers, coaches, and officials to interact with global leaders, learn best practices, and gain exposure. This could accelerate the development of local boxing talent and potentially lead to more Vietnamese champions on the world stage.

Professional Development: The convention would likely include seminars, training courses, and certification programs for referees, judges, and coaches, significantly improving the quality and professionalism of Vietnamese boxing personnel.

2. Development of the "Sports Economy":
Tourism Boost: A global convention attracts a significant number of international delegates, including IBF officials, promoters, managers, boxers, media, and fans. This influx of visitors would lead to increased spending on hotels, restaurants, transportation, shopping, and local attractions, generating substantial revenue for the local economy.

Job Creation: The event would create temporary jobs in hospitality, event management, security, transportation, and other related sectors.

Media Exposure: Global media coverage of the convention and any associated boxing events would provide invaluable promotion for Vietnam as a tourist destination and a vibrant, modern country, enhancing its international image.

Hosting an IBF convention could stimulate the commercialization of boxing in Vietnam, encouraging more sponsorships, broadcasting deals, and the growth of a professional boxing ecosystem.

3. Soft Power and International Relations:
Diplomatic Engagement: Hosting such an event fosters stronger relationships with international sports organizations and participating countries, enhancing Vietnam's "soft power" on the global stage.

Cultural Exchange: It provides an opportunity to showcase Vietnamese culture, hospitality, and unique heritage to a diverse international audience. Delegates would experience local customs, cuisine, and traditions, leaving with positive impressions.

National Pride: Successfully hosting a prestigious global event instills a sense of national pride and unity among the Vietnamese people.

So, what do you think about Vietnam hosting IBF Convention in 2026?

Nguyễn Văn Hải Set for Historic Title Fight in Australia

Vietnamese boxer Nguyễn Văn Hải will face Australian champion Ibrahim Balla for the IBF Australasia Lightweight title on July 19th at Selkirk Stadium, marking the first time a Vietnamese fighter competes for a major boxing title in Australia.

The bout, made possible by the Vietnam Boxing Organization and VSP Boxing, pits the seasoned amateur and “Hanoi Hitman” (7-3) against the highly regarded Balla (17-3), who boasts recent victories over Jalen Tait and Youssef Dib.

“I will show Australia what a warrior from Hanoi looks like,” Hải said. “I will bring the belt and the glory to Vietnam.”

IT JUST TAKES ONE SECOND, ONE PUNCH.
One punch can change everything in a split second. When a towel is thrown to stop a fight, especially in the final moments of a championship bout, emotions can run high and fans might question the decision.

But let's remember: it takes less than a second for a boxer to absorb a blow that can have lasting, serious consequences. Even with just one second left on the clock, a corner's priority must always be the boxer's safety – above any title, pride, or reputation.

Only the coach at the fight knows the most accurate condition of the boxer, not the fans watching on TV.

We applaud the coaches who put their fighters' well-being first, even when facing criticism. Safety always comes first in the ring. 🥊

WBO ASIA PACIFIC BANTAMWEIGHT (VACANT) ON JUNE 8TH, TOKYO.

VBO recently approved a bout for Tran Van Thao against Toyoma Tsuboi of Japan on June 8th. As some have noticed, this is a highly unusual match up because Toyoma has only 1 professional fight record.

The 29 year old Japanese boxer has had an illustrous amateur career, having achieved gold medal at the national championship. He trains at the famous Honda gym, well known for producing top quality prospects. Mr. Honda thinks he can fast track Toyoma's professional boxing career with the approval from JBC. Even so, this fight will certainly draw a lot of skepticism.

WBO has approved the fight based on their assessment that it would be a competitive match up.

This fight is arranged by Mr. Kim Sang Bum of Cocky Buffalo gym.

VBO wishes boxer TRAN VAN THAO a safe and exciting fight experience.

CHARLY SUAREZ GETS WORLD TITLE SHOT
Vietnam has played host to many quality international fighters over the years, but surely none greater than the mercurial Charly Suarez from the Philippines !

Charly was an integral part of a World Team that fought at the Victory8 tournament held in Hanoi in late 2019.
The VSP Promotions "Legends of Hoan Kiem" event assembled the best boxers ever seen in this country, and Suarez' battle with the "Hitman" Nguyễn Văn Hải was one of the highlights.

Vietnam Boxing Organization had the pleasure of officiating the FORTUNES OF WAR event in Vung Tau in 2022, where Charly Suarez returned to Vietnam to secure the IBF Asia belt - and importantly, earn him a shot at the unbeaten Australian Paul Fleming in Sydney in March 2023.

VBO made the trip to Australia to support the Philippines' champion in his quest to dethrone the indigenous star Fleming, an epic contest which resulted in a final round stoppage for the rampaging Suarez.

Now an unbeaten 18-0 in the professional ranks, VBO were delivered the exciting news that Charly will fight for the WBO World Title against Emanuel Navarrete of Mexico on May 10th.

VBO would like to extend our congratulations and good wishes to the Charly Suarez team, and are honoured that Vietnam and VBO played a small role in this wonderful success.
