NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management – PSM

1. Process Safety Leadership
Lãnh đạo an toàn quá trình, competence, safety culture và vai trò của management.
2. Management of Process Risk
Xây dựng Process Safety Management System; quản lý rủi ro; leading/lagging indicators, auditing, asset integrity, maintenance và quản lý thay đổi.
3. Process Safety Hazard Control
Kiểm soát các mối nguy trong quá trình: chemical reactions, bulk storage of dangerous substances, process plant, start-up/shutdown, safety-critical systems & equipment.
4. Fire & Explosion Protection / Emergency Response

🚨 PPE is important, but it is not the most effective control measure.

🦺 Why the Hierarchy of Controls Still Matters

Many workplaces focus on PPE first. But what if the hazard could be eliminated altogether?

One of the most important lessons in Health and Safety is understanding that the best way to protect workers is not by reacting to hazards, but by removing them at the source.

The Hierarchy of Controls provides a proven framework for reducing workplace risks:
✅ Elimination – Remove the hazard completely.
✅ Substitution – Replace it with a safer alternative.
✅ Engineering Controls – Isolate people from the hazard.
✅ Administrative Controls – Improve procedures, training, and supervision.
✅ PPE – Protect workers when exposure cannot be fully controlled.

A common mistake in many organizations is relying heavily on PPE while overlooking opportunities for stronger controls higher up the hierarchy.

As safety professionals, we must continually ask ourselves:
"Are we managing the hazard, or are we eliminating the risk?"
Every incident prevented, every injury avoided, and every life protected begins with making the right control decisions.

💬 Which level of the Hierarchy of Controls do you believe organizations struggle with most, and why?
