The Green Growth Sector Committee (GGSC), EuroCham Vietnam is pleased to have Mr. Thuan Nguyen, Co-Chairman of GGSC, represent the committee at the opening ceremony of the 11th World Battery & Energy Storage Industry Expo (WBE 26) in Guangzhou.

During the opening session, Mr. Thuan shared perspectives on the potential development of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Vietnam, alongside leaders and senior representatives from the international battery and energy storage community.

Vietnam’s rapidly evolving power system, rising electricity demand, increasing renewable energy capacity, grid constraints, and the growing need for greater flexibility are creating favourable conditions for the development of energy storage.

However, Nguyen remarked that building a sustainable BESS market requires more than deploying battery systems. Technology, investment, market mechanisms, infrastructure, enabling regulatory framework, and collaboration across the ecosystem will all have their roles in facilitating the sector’s development.

The discussions in Guangzhou highlighted the significant opportunities emerging for Vietnam, as well as the significance of connecting these opportunities with global technology, capital and expertise to support the country’s ongoing energy transition.

At GGSC, these discussions are central to our advocacy and ongoing efforts.

The Green Growth Sector Committee - EuroCham Vietnam was pleased to have Jonathan Sourintha, Co-Chairman of GGSC, speak at a training programme co-organised by the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and the German International Cooperation Organization (GIZ) on International & EU Policy Trends for the Circular Economy.

Jonathan shared insights into key EU developments, including ESPR, Digital Product Passport, Right to Repair, PPWR, EUDR, CSRD/CSDDD and CBAM, and their implications for Vietnamese businesses and financial institutions.

On Tuesday, 18th August, the Blue-Green Cities & Industries (BGCI) Working Group Meeting recently convened to review its ongoing activities, discuss emerging issues and upcoming priorities for green and resilient development in Vietnam.

Chaired by Mr. Frank Pogade, Head of the WG and Vice-Chair of GGSC, the session featured:

The group also discussed potential cooperation with VietWater, including opportunities for GGSC participation and engagement around the annual trade fair.

The discussion once again highlighted the WG’s role as a proactive platform for dialogue and practical collaboration, contributing to Vietnam’s sustainable water management and green industrial development.
