GEF Plenary Session: Together for a Green and Resilient Vietnam

The Green Economy Forum 2025 is honoured to welcome distinguished guests, including the EU Delegation in Vietnam, leaders from Vietnamese provinces, Ambassadors and Deputy Ambassadors, among business leaders to share the latest green strategies and solutions across Europea, South-east Asia, and Vietnam.

🌱 In his opening speech, Mr. Vu Ba Phu, Director General of VIETRADE (Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade) encouraged the continued collaboration between EU and Vietnamese business in digital transition, bridging the green skill gap, boosting investments, among other sectors. As the co-organiser of GEF 2025, VIETRADE expressed belief in the forum's role in fostering business connections and innovations to strengthen Vietnam's green growth capacity.

🌱 Sharing his opening remarks, H.E. Mr. Julien Guerrier, Ambassador of the European Union to Vietnam, reassured that bringing economic growth, greater productivity, and sustainability, "EU businesses are standing by Vietnam’s side in in building Vietnam’s future". He also highlighted how initiatives like the EU Green Deal, Just Energy Transition Partnership, and EU Global Gateway among others have been helping Vietnam build green capacity and unlock its full potential to meet future challenges and opportunities.

🌱 In his leadership keynote speech, Mr. Dale Hardcastle, Partner and Co-director of the Global Sustainability Innovation Centre, Bain & Company, shared insights from Bain's latest Southeast Asia Green Economy Report 2025. He emphasised that Southeast Asia does not need to choose between economic development and climate action. The solution to pursue that is systems thinking - integrating solutions across power, transport, and nature rather than treating them as separate initiatives. With systems thinking, Southeast Asia could achieve its 2030 goal of gaining $120 billion in additional GDP and creating 900,000 new jobs.

🌱 Bringing insights straight from Rotterdam, one of Europe's biggest logistics hubs, Mr. Arthur Neeteson, Global Head of Decarbonisation and Growth, APM Terminals (part of Maersk Group) shared the company's practical contributions to improve sustainability in the supply chains sector. He emphasised that "decarbonisation can go hand in hand with cost efficiency and high technology". Mr. Neeteson explained how port electrification can support Vietnam's logistics industry growth. Beyond compliance and corporate responsibility, using electric equipment run with renewable electricity can bring businesses significant advantage in cost saving and resilience.

Following inspiring speeches, the plenary session follows with an insightful panel discussion with the topic "Resilience as Competitiveness". Joining the panel were:

With 14 typhoons (and bracing for the 15th one coming soon) this year, Vietnam has faced one of the most severe storm and flooding events in the past 50 years, resulting in over 𝟯.𝟮𝟮 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗨𝗦𝗗 in economic loss (updated till 24 November 2025).

Mr. Jaspaert emphasised that "𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁-𝗪𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲" for Vietnam to future-proof the country against loss brought by climate change and boost Vietnam's growth. That is why platforms like the Green Economy Forum matters – acting as a platform for action, partnership, and transformation.

As the government, communities, and businesses come together to provide critical support for Central Vietnam in recovering from the recent devastating flood, the EuroCham community also stepped up in action. Ahead of the Green Economy Forum (GEF) 2025, EuroCham Chairman Bruno Jaspaert has called for the urgent "𝟱𝟬 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟭" campaign, a rapid, collective effort to call for 50 EuroCham member companies to each contribute 1,000 USD to support for a resilient Vietnam.

📌At the GEF 2025 Plenary session, Mr. Jaspaert proudly shared that in just 24 hours, the EuroCham business community has contributed a total of 𝟳𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗨𝗦𝗗 (~𝟭.𝟴𝟯 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗩𝗡𝗗) to the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s fund. This shows European businesses’ strong comraderies and commitment to accompany Vietnam's sustainable growth.
