ANRS MIE Vietnam Partner Site at the Annual Meeting of the ANRS MIE International Network in Paris 🇫🇷🌏

On 29–30 June 2026, the ANRS MIE Vietnam Partner Site took part in the Annual Meeting of the ANRS MIE International Network, held at PariSanté Campus in Paris.

The Vietnam Partner Site was represented by members of its coordination team, including Dr Didier Laureillard, French Co-Coordinator, who gave a scientific presentation on tuberculosis; Ass. Prof. Phan Thi Thu Huong, Vietnamese Co-Coordinator, who presented the activities and priorities of the Vietnam Partner Site; Dr Ann-Claire Gourinat, French Deputy Coordinator and International Technical Expert (ETI), who contributed to the session dedicated to ETIs within the International Network; as well as Dr Doan Thi Thuy Linh, Vietnamese Deputy Coordinator, and Ass. Prof. Le Minh Giang, Vietnamese Scientific Coordinator.

These two intensive days brought together representatives of ANRS MIE partner sites from different countries. The programme offered a valuable space to share experiences, strengthen links across the International Network, and discuss key scientific, operational and strategic priorities.

Discussions covered major current topics in infectious diseases and global health, including emerging respiratory viruses, the Ebola Bundibugyo outbreak, tuberculosis, infectious disease modelling, scientific coordination within the International Network, project follow-up, and funding diversification.

The first day concluded with an important institutional milestone: the signing of a framework agreement between the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE) and ANRS MIE, signed on behalf of ANRS MIE by Professor Yazdan Yazdanpanah, Director of ANRS MIE. This agreement reaffirmed their shared commitment to international scientific cooperation in infectious diseases. ✍️🤝

The Vietnam Partner Site was also pleased to share these discussions with Professor Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and former coordinator of the ANRS MIE Vietnam Partner Site, whose presence highlighted the long-standing history and continuity of the collaboration between ANRS MIE and Vietnam. ✨

📢New publication from a Franco-Vietnamese research collaboration supported by ANRS MIE
✨Congratulations to the teams from the Viện Vệ sinh dịch tễ Trung ương National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE), and the Institut Pasteur Paris, together with their partners, for their publication in Scientific Reports:
“Injecting drug use worsens the quality of life in HIV-HCV co-infected patients in Vietnam.”

Based on data from the MOVIDA Hep 2 study, this research was conducted among people living with HIV and co-infected with hepatitis C virus in Vietnam. It highlights an important public health finding: people with a history of injecting drug use report a lower quality of life than other patients, despite long-term antiretroviral treatment.

Beyond the clinical results, this publication underlines the need for a more comprehensive approach to HIV/HCV care, including screening for pain, anxiety and depression; stronger attention to vulnerable populations; and better integration of psychosocial dimensions into care pathways.

These findings can help decision-makers and public health stakeholders better adapt health services, particularly in decentralised settings, and strengthen targeted interventions for populations at higher risk of care disruption and health inequalities.

This publication also illustrates the added value of 🇻🇳🇫🇷 Franco-Vietnamese scientific collaboration: through ANRS MIE-supported research: generating robust field-based evidence that can directly inform health policies and contribute to improving the quality of health care.

👏 Congratulations again to Yoann Madec, Thang Hong Pham, the NIHE teams, the Institut Pasteur team, the provincial CDCs of Yen Bai and Nghe An, and all partners involved in this important work.
