On 7 Sept, Cornellians in Saigon gathered for a cozy, heartfelt meetup — the kind that reminds you why the Big Red community feels like family no matter where you are in the world.

The evening unfolded in a relaxed corner of the city, where alumni from different class years shared stories, swapped updates, and discovered unexpected connections.

Some were longtime Vietnam residents, others were visiting from abroad, but the moment everyone walked in, the room felt instantly familiar — like stepping back into a shared Cornell memory.

This morning on the Arts Quad, Cornell Republicans and Cornell Democrats joined together to plant American flags in honor of lives lost in the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Throughout the morning, the McGraw Tower chimes are tolling to mark when the planes crashed and towers fell, as our community pauses to honor and remember those killed. Our community is also invited to visit the memorial in the Anabel Taylor Hall rotunda dedicated to the 21 Cornell alumni who died on 9/11.

Organized by the Ivy+ Organizing Committee, the event offered a welcoming space for absolutely everyone — newly admitted students, seasoned alumni, local professionals, families, and friends. Whether you wanted to share advice with the next generation, expand your network, or simply enjoy a meaningful meet‑up before the fall semester begins, this send‑off had a place for you.

Ivy-Plus represents the Ivies (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Dartmouth, UPenn, Brown, Cornell), alongside Stanford, MIT, Duke, Georgetown, Northwestern, and UChicago. While we are celebrating these students, this event is entirely inclusive—everyone is welcome!

Ed Baum ’81 and his wife, Holly Wallace, have made history at the with a remarkable $10 million gift, the largest one-time commitment the school has ever received. Their generosity establishes The Baum and Wallace Family High Road Endowment, a foundation that will support stipends, housing, and robust programming for the High Road NYC initiative.

This endowment will empower students through engaged learning and leadership opportunities for generations to come. As Dean Alexander Colvin, Ph.D. ’99, shared, “This wonderfully generous gift will enrich the educational experience of generations of students to come.”

🇺🇸✨ A Remarkable Double Encounter with the New U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam

What an unforgettable week for the Cornell Club of Vietnam. We had the special privilege of meeting the new U.S. Ambassador twice — first at her very first public appearance at the American Club, and then again at the 250th U.S. Independence Day Anniversary celebration in Hanoi.

Both moments were filled with warmth, openness, and genuine connection. Together with leaders of the Vietnam–U.S. Association and the Vietnam–U.S. Alumni Association, we shared meaningful conversations about strengthening people‑to‑people diplomacy and expanding collaboration among Vietnam–U.S. alumni networks.

The Ambassador impressed us with her friendliness, accessibility, and sincere interest in our community. She expressed her hope to work closely with us to build stronger bonds, deeper engagement, and more impactful initiatives between our two nations.

A rewarding milestone — and an exciting beginning for future collaboration.

🐻🕯️ The Cornell Club of Vietnam extends our deepest condolences to the Cornell Club of Thailand on the passing of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati, LLM ’02, JSD ’05.

Her Royal Highness was a distinguished Cornellian whose scholarship and public service left a profound impact. During her time at Cornell Law School, she completed her dissertation on the protection of the rights of the accused—reflecting her lifelong commitment to justice and human dignity.

She went on to represent Thailand at the United Nations, where she championed the UN’s Bangkok Rules, advancing global standards for the treatment of women prisoners, including access to gender‑specific healthcare, protection from gender‑based violence, and the preservation of family bonds.

Her Royal Highness remained an engaged member of the Cornell community. A scholarship in her name has supported Thai lawyers pursuing studies at Cornell, and she returned to Ithaca to share her insights with students and faculty at the Law School.

The Cornell Club of Vietnam stands in solidarity with the Cornell community in Thailand during this time of loss. Her legacy of service, intellect, and compassion will continue to inspire Cornellians around the world.
