AIP Foundation AIP Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization transforming mobility to save lives, protect the planet, and create equal opportunities for all.

AIP Foundation creates public-private partnerships, develops mass media education and school curricula, and implements school-based helmet use and traffic safety education programs. These programs include school-based Helmets for Kids, Safe Routes to School, Click on Safety, and mass media public awareness education. Our efforts to improve road and road user safety also include advocacy, the provi

sion of technical assistance and expertise, and the provision of high quality, culturally appropriate and affordable helmets to the market. In 2009, AIP Foundation, in collaboration with the FIA Foundation and the World Bank Global Road Safety Facility, launched the Global Helmet Vaccine Initiative, an international movement with the objective of “putting a helmet on every head in the ‘Decade of Action for Road Safety.’” The Initiative brings AIP Foundation programs to developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, and will work to reduce the projected number of road traffic crash deaths and injury by 50 percent by 2020. In 2017, AIP Foundation gained Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. United Nations (UN) consultative status is the highest status granted by the United Nations to NGOs and thereby allows us to participate in the work of the UN and directly contribute to its agenda.

Head injuries remain the dominant cause of death and severe disability among motorcyclists in Thailand, contributing to an estimated 79% of motorcycle fatalities.

To increase the Safe Guard – Helmet Safety Initiative Technical Working Group’s ability to tackle this epidemic and catalyze effective helmet safety initiatives and policies, a capacity building workshop was held in Bangkok on December 15th.

21 organizations from government agencies, civil society, and the transport sector participated in this workshop.

The goals of the workshop included fostering collaboration among partners and aligning attitudes to recognize the importance of helmet-wearing.

One Region, One Mission: FIA Region II Club Members Driving Actions for Child Helmet Safety through Heads Up! Phase 3 Regional Campaign

Following two successful capacity-building workshops last week, AIP Foundation kicked off a regional discussion with FIA Region II Club Members from Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Nepal, and Vietnam to align on the direction of the Heads Up! Phase 3 Regional Public Awareness Campaign on child helmet safety.

This collaborative dialogue aimed to build a shared vision and unified messages for the club-led public awareness campaign, strengthen joint efforts to promote the Global Child Helmet Standard across the Asia–Pacific region, and improve the protection of every child on the road.

In a friendly and engaging atmosphere, the discussion was highly dynamic, with club representatives actively sharing creative ideas, practical experiences, and valuable lessons learned from their respective local public awareness campaigns – paving the way for stronger, more coordinated regional action.

Safe Heads, Strong Future: Viet Nam Road Safety Partnership champions quality helmets to protect young lives

Every year, 2000 children and young people are killed on Viet Nam’s roads, many of them because they are wearing helmets that do not adequately protect their heads.

To help address this preventable tragedy, a workshop, “Safe Heads, Strong Future: Advancing Helmet Use and Quality for Children and Youth”, was held in Ha Noi on Monday.

It brought together members of the Viet Nam Project 2000 Road Safety Partnership, as well as Government agencies, civil society and the transport sector.

The event focused on strengthening compliance with helmet rules – especially improving helmet quality.

On Friday, December 12, AIP Foundation, with support from the Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI), successfully hosted a Motorcycle Anti-lock Braking System (M-ABS) Demonstration Event at AEON Mall Hà Đông, Hanoi. The event supported the Academy of Construction Strategy and Cadres Training (ACST) – Ministry of Construction and AIP Foundation’s broader Public Awareness Campaign for Motorcycle ABS initiative.

The demonstration provided participants – which included policymakers, government representatives, media, and members of the public – with a hands-on experience showcasing how M-ABS improves vehicle stability and control during emergency braking situations. A key highlight of the event included technical experts demonstrating the performance difference between motorcycles equipped with and without ABS in a controlled setting – accentuating how the technology prevents wheel lock and in turn, reduces crash risks.

To learn more about the demonstration, Public Awareness Campaign for Motorcycle ABS, and M-ABS technology, please read our press release here:https://www.aip-foundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/M-ABS-Demonstration-event_Press-release_ENGFinal_10.12.2025.pdf

Since 2023, AIP Foundation and the Academy of Construction Strategy and Cadres Training (ACST) - Ministry of Construction have been co-implementing the Public Awareness Campaign for Motorcycle ABS – a leading initiative that is spearheading the push for a mandatory motorcycle anti-lock braking system (M-ABS) regulation in Vietnam.

Through coordinated research, stakeholder engagement, and public awareness efforts; the project aims to evaluate the effectiveness of M-ABS in reducing motorcycle-related traffic crashes and advocate for wider adoption across the country. According to the WHO, M-ABS is considered one of the proven solutions to protect the lives of motorcycle users. The campaign seeks to strengthen evidence-based advocacy for introducing mandatory requirements for new motorcycles.

Reminder: M-ABS Demonstration Event
We are excited to share that on December 12, 2025, AIP Foundation, with support from the Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI), will host a Motorcycle ABS Demonstration Event at AEON Mall Hà Đông, Hanoi as part of the broader public awareness campaign.

The demonstration will provide participants with a hands-on experience on how M-ABS improves vehicle stability and control during emergency braking situations. Stakeholders including policymakers, government representatives, media, as well as members of the public, will be engaged at this exciting event. AIP Foundation and WHO Viet Nam mobilize stakeholders before new child safety restraint rules take effect in January

AIP Foundation and the World Health Organization Viet Nam co-hosted a workshop on child restraint systems (CRS) – also known as child car seats – in Ha Noi yesterday, aiming to reduce child injuries and deaths on the road.

The workshop was supported by the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) and the Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI), with generous funding from the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS).

In June 2024, the National Assembly approved the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, a milestone that, for the first time, mandates the use of CRS for children who are under 10 years old and under 135cm tall, traveling in cars.
