Hoi An Celebrates Heritage and Community

This late August, Hoi An will come alive with two vibrant cultural events that connect locals and visitors through heritage, tradition, and shared joy.

On August 30, 2025, the Kim B**g Countryside Market will recreate the nostalgic charm of an old rural fair at Kim B**g Craft Village. Visitors can enjoy rustic cuisine, discover traditional crafts, and join river activities in a warm, community atmosphere.

From August 31 to September 1, 2025, the Thanh Ha Pottery Village Ancestor’s Festival will take place, honoring the village’s craft traditions with palanquin processions, boat racing, pottery competitions, folk games, and a lively night street festival.

These celebrations are more than festivals—they are living expressions of Hoi An’s timeless spirit, where heritage and community meet in joy.

As dusk falls, Hoi An sheds its modern pace and slips into a dream of centuries past. Lanterns sway gently above cobblestone streets, their soft glow painting the town in shades of gold. Locals in traditional attire stroll by, while the Thu Bon River mirrors the flicker of candlelit offerings.

Every note of folk music, every warm smile, every silent alley tells a story — not from a book, but from a living, breathing heritage. This is more than a night in Hoi An; it’s stepping into a timeless embrace.

Bá Lễ Well - an everlasting source in the heart of the ancient town

Tucked away in a small alley off Phan Châu Trinh street, Bá Lễ Well bears the cultural imprint of the ancient Champa civilization, with its square structure, brick walls made of old masonry, and a wooden frame of ironwood. The well has undergone several restorations over time, the most significant funded by Madam Bá Lễ, from whom it takes its name.
For the people of Hội An, Bá Lễ Well is inseparable from daily life. Its water is used to prepare herbal medicines, cook the famous Cao Lầu noodles, and meet everyday household needs.
Providing fresh, clean water all year round, Bá Lễ Well is regarded as a cultural lifeline flowing through the heritage town.

🌿 "Xưởng Tái Sinh" – Where Trash Becomes Thoughtful Art

Nestled in the quiet Cam Ha area of Hoi An, "Xưởng Tái Sinh" (The Reborn Workshop) is not your usual art gallery.

This community-based art space turns discarded plastic into striking sculptures and visual messages—raising awareness about the environment and inspiring conversations through creativity. You’ll find portraits made from flip-flops, waves shaped from bottle caps, and silent stories woven from waste.

It’s an eye-opening stop where local artists breathe new life into trash, proving that even the smallest piece of waste can inspire meaningful change.

Entry is free or donation-based – every contribution helps sustain the artists and their powerful message.

📍Add it to your self-guided cycling route or ask our Dana Dragon Free Tour guides for directions. It’s worth a visit.

Kim B**g Carpentry Village – Where Wood Comes to Life 🪵🚴

Tucked along the Thu Bon River, **Kim B**g Village** has been shaping Hoi An’s heritage in the most literal sense — through wood.

For over 400 years, generations of artisans here have handcrafted pagodas, ancient houses, and ornate boats, many of which still define Hoi An’s Old Town charm today.

On our **FREE Hoi An Bike Tour**, you’ll stop by Kim Bồng to:
✅ See woodcarvers at work – chiseling dragons, birds, and folklore into life
✅ Learn how wooden boats are made (yes, they still do it!)
✅ Hear about the village’s golden days during the Nguyen Dynasty
✅ Feel the peaceful rhythm of a riverside artisan community

🌳 This isn’t just a visit — it’s a window into a living craft, passed down by calloused hands and quiet pride.

🌉 The Japanese Covered Bridge – Not Just a Symbol, But the Soul of Hoi An

Every visitor to Hoi An has likely walked across the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge, snapped a few photos, and admired its ancient charm. But have you ever truly understood the cultural layers, spiritual beliefs, and mysterious legends surrounding this humble little bridge?

Here are 5 fascinating facts about the Japanese Covered Bridge that most tourists don’t know:

1️⃣ It’s not a Buddhist temple. Despite the name, the bridge doesn't honor the Buddha. Instead, it’s dedicated to Tran Vo Bac De, the God of Weather and Floods—protector of Hoi An against natural disasters.

2️⃣ The monkey and dog statues at each end of the bridge aren’t just decoration. They are spiritual guardians, said to protect the town’s vital energy lines.

3️⃣ According to legend, the bridge was built to "nail down" the tail of Namazu, a mythical sea monster that caused floods and earthquakes. Anchoring it beneath the bridge was believed to bring stability and peace.

4️⃣ Local couples avoid crossing the bridge during wedding processions. It’s considered too sacred for marriage rituals, as the spiritual energy isn’t aligned with such ceremonies.

5️⃣ The bridge was once off-limits. It only opened for ritual offerings and religious events—long before it became the beloved landmark you can visit today.

📍Next time you’re in Hoi An, don’t just pass by. Pause. Take a closer look. And listen—this little bridge has been quietly telling stories for centuries.
