🌱 THAM QUAN, HỌC HỎI MÔ HÌNH SINH KẾ NẤM RƠM HIỆU QUẢ TẠI AN GIANG 🍄 (English below)
Điểm đến thứ hai – Trường Đại học An Giang

🌱 LEARNING FROM AN EFFECTIVE STRAW MUSHROOM LIVELIHOOD MODEL IN AN GIANG 🍄
On August 20, 2026, Merry Year International (MYI), in coordination with relevant partners, organized a field visit to an effective livelihood model in An Giang Province. The visit brought together representatives from the Project Management Board, local authorities, and farmers participating in the straw mushroom livelihood model in Can Tho. The visit aimed to provide participants with an opportunity to exchange practical experiences, learn effective production techniques, and explore solutions that could potentially be adapted and applied in their local communities.
📍 First Stop – Indoor Straw Mushroom Production Model in Co To Commune, An Giang Province
At the first site, the participants learned firsthand about the process of growing and caring for straw mushrooms, including material selection and preparation, mushroom house management, and practical experience in managing pests, weather conditions, and other factors affecting productivity.
Participants also had the opportunity to engage directly with the farmer, discussing the advantages, challenges, and practical experiences involved in developing and maintaining the model.
One particularly noteworthy practice was the use of spent mushroom substrate to produce organic fertilizer, helping reduce agricultural waste while creating additional value from agricultural resources. The model demonstrated the potential of straw mushroom production to generate additional household income when appropriately invested in and managed.
🎓 Second Stop – An Giang University
The participants then visited An Giang University to learn about research, mushroom propagation techniques, and the production of various types of edible and medicinal mushrooms. Members also toured the laboratory and the research area for raising red worms using straw-based substrates.
Of particular interest was the circular economy approach using rice straw. After harvest, rice straw can be used to grow mushrooms; the spent mushroom substrate can then be further utilized to produce organic fertilizer, serve as a growing medium for flowers, support worm farming, or be returned to the soil. This approach demonstrates how agricultural by-products can be effectively reused and transformed into valuable resources, contributing to more sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural production.
🤝 The learning visit also provided an opportunity for Project Management Board members and farmers to actively exchange ideas, discuss practical experiences, and connect the knowledge gained with actual production conditions in their local communities. Based on the feedback collected after the visit, the learning content was considered relevant to the needs of participating in households and provided valuable technical knowledge that could be further explored and potentially applied in the future.
Through these practical learning experiences, MYI hopes that relevant knowledge, experiences, and solutions can be further studied, adapted, and applied to livelihood models in Can Tho, contributing to improved production efficiency, enhanced household livelihoods, and stronger community resilience to the impacts of climate change.
