Our ethos is very much in supporting organisations involved in the rescue and promotion of welfare of pugs. We hold fund raisers and get involved with charitable events. We understand and respect that differing opinions exist regarding neutering/spaying. We have researched this area and consulted with several professionals including vets and concluded that whereas it is important to discuss each individual dogs case with your vet, evidence seems to show that health and behavioral benefits of getting your dog neutered/spayed is overwhelming, except in cases where a vet states there are health implications that contraindicate this. We respect that this is a decision that only you as an owner can make after weighing up the pros and cons. It is not a prerequisite that your pug is neutered/spayed to be a member of Pug Mania but we would strongly encourage you to discuss this with your vet. There are plenty of groups and forums dedicated to breeding and puppies; we are NOT one of them! We do not necessarily have anything against the 'responsible' breeding of Pugs to enhance the breed as without breeders we would not have our wonderful breed, however we do not endorse breeding in Pug Mania at all. Sadly, there are an increasing number of back street breeders and puppy farms in the UK and we do not want to inadvertently be involved with this practice. The Pug Clubs states:
“While The Pug Clubs are pleased to see the continued popularity of this charming dog, a major concern is that of the breed being used by those who do not have its interests at heart and are breeding pugs and pug crosses purely to supply a ‘market demand’ and having no stake in maintaining and improving the long term health of the breed.”
Pug Mania supports this statement, therefore we have a blanket exclusion on all conversations regarding breeding, this includes discussions and posting of links relating to breeding, studs, birth, whelping, puppies for sale and any other related topics. Please no pictures of Puppies that are still available to buy. We respectfully request that you do not disclose that you are a breeder on this page or in our groups regardless of your accreditation. If you know of a Pug in need or if you need to re-home your own Pug please contact a member of the admin team via inbox messenger who will help you. For those of you who are involved with breeding we refer you to The Kennel Club’s Assured Breeder Scheme and The Pug Club. The Pug Club and have added a clause to their Code of Ethics to which new members have to agree to abide, which states that if breeding pugs, they should adopt as a minimum standard the principles, requirements and recommendations as embodied in the scheme. Much as we find Pug crosses & so called 'rare colour' pugs very cute we do not endorse the cross breeding of Pugs, this is in line with The Pug Clubs statement above and is purely a position we take to protect the welfare of Pugs as it is recognised that cross breeding may cause health problems for the dog. However, we do not discriminate against Pug cross breeds or rare colour pugs & welcome owners to join us without prejudice. We do not allow advertising of goods or services of any kind by individuals or organisations who would directly benefit from such advertising on this site unless the individual or organisation either provides financial support to pug charities or offers our members a discount. Members being abusive or disrespectful or not adhering to the guidelines will be removed and banned without further notice. We do actively encourage members to join us online or in person and pugs at our events where we hope you will become part of our community of Pug lovers. You will be warmly welcomed and hope you will have lots of fun, however, to ensure the health and well being of all dogs stays paramount, we ask that owners should refrain from bringing bi***es in season, pregnant bi***es, lactating/nursing bi***es, dogs that are showing any symptoms of acute or infectious illnesses & dogs showing any signs of aggression to any of our walks or events.
