SINCE MARCH OF 2011 OUR TEAM HAS RESCUED OVER 3000 DOGS FROM HIGH-KILL, RURAL SHELTERS IN AL, FL, GA, LA, NC, SC, TX, KY AND WV AND FOUND THEM GREAT FOREVER HOMES. We are a 501(c)3 volunteer-run nonprofit of rescuers, fosters, and volunteers who work together to rescue, rehabilitate, and find homes for sweet, loving, adoptable dogs from high-kill pounds in the rural south. Upon rescue, we spay/neu

ter, vaccinate, test for heartworm, provide flea and heartworm preventatives, and deworm. We also treat illnesses, such as heartworm and necessary surgeries for dogs with serious injuries. Badass has no shelter space and relies on our dedicated foster families to house, care for, and train our dogs before adoption. This 2021, we achieve a major milestone: ten years of rescue. It’s the update we’ve all been waiting for: Jane Goodall is home. 🤍

A few weeks ago, we shared one of the scariest moments we've experienced as a rescue. Three emergency surgeries. Blood transfusions. Days in the hospital. So many unknowns.

Today, we're grateful to be sharing something much quieter.

9.5-year-old Jane continues to recover at home, surrounded by the people who love her most. She's still on strict crate rest, taking short potty breaks only, and her days revolve around medications, naps, and the occasional head scratch—which, as always, remains her favorite activity.

Her foster says they're "constantly impressed with her positive spirit," and honestly, so are we.

Despite everything she's endured, Jane greets each day with the same gentle heart that made everyone fall in love with her in the first place.

This journey has also reminded us just how extraordinary this community is.

Hundreds of you followed Jane's story. You donated. You sent messages. You checked in. You rooted for her as if she were your own dog. Visitors came to see her in the hospital. Complete strangers became part of her recovery story simply because they believed her life was worth fighting for.

And because of that, Jane is exactly where she belongs—safe at home, healing.

She still has a road ahead of her. Once she's fully recovered, she'll begin treatment for her heartworm disease. There are still follow-up appointments, medications, and many weeks of recovery to come.

But for now, we're choosing to celebrate the little victories.

A good appetite.

A wagging tail.

A peaceful nap in her own bed.

A senior dog who gets another chance.

We'll keep everyone posted on Jane's recovery journey. For now, we're just incredibly grateful she's back where she belongs—safe, loved, and recovering in her foster home.

🥰 Mirabel Madrigal is 5 years old, 50 pounds, and all wiggles! She’s a super affectionate dog who loves her people.

🐶 Have another dog at home? No worries! Mirabel is excellent at making friends! She even came into rescue from Selma, Alabama with a sibling. She’s been fostered in a home with another dog before and had no issues.

🏠 A house and crate trained girlie? Heck yes! Of course, Mirabel may need some adjustment time in a new home. She even has some manners down! She knows “place” and “freeze.” Such a smartie pants!

Meet Babka, a tiny senior lady with a BIG personality.

At 9 years old, Babka knows exactly what she wants out of life: short walks, long cuddles, plenty of snacks, and an audience for her many opinions. 😂 She greets her people with delighted little spins, plays footsie, makes an impressive variety of funny noises, and is always ready to investigate whatever you’re doing.

Her ideal day? A quick stroll to stretch those tiny legs, followed by some serious lounging. She’s low-key without ever being boring, and she’ll happily summon a burst of energy to chase her favorite battery-powered cat toy around the house.

Today’s star, Justine Biagi, is proof that confidence doesn't have to be loud. ⚡️

Named after the GLOW character who always marched to the beat of her own drum, our Justine has that same wonderfully authentic spirit. She knows who she is, she doesn't pretend to be anyone else, and she's looking for someone who will love her for exactly that.

At 9 years old, Justine has perfected the balance between playtime and downtime. She loves tossing around toys, diving into a game of fetch, going all-in during tug-of-war, and splashing around in the water. But when the fun is over? She's perfectly content finding a cozy spot to relax near her people.

Justine takes a minute to warm up to new faces, but once she decides you're part of her world, you'll get to know the goofy, affectionate girl we all adore. She's the kind of dog who quietly sneaks into your heart—one wag, one game, and one cuddle at a time.

She also has all the makings of an excellent housemate. She's crate trained, house trained, walks beautifully on leash, and genuinely enjoys spending time with other dogs. Like all of us, she has a few quirks, and she'll thrive with an experienced adopter who understands that the strongest relationships are built on patience, trust, and setting each other up for success.

Justine spent years in a loving home before finding herself back in rescue when her family's circumstances changed. Now she's ready to find the person who's meant to write her next chapter.

Alumni spotlight on Ruby (fka Ruby Rose) and congrats on two years with her family!
