In 1972, 4,000 workers at Farah Manufacturing in El Paso walked out for their right to have a union.

About 85% of the strikers were women, and virtually all were Hispanic.

For nearly two years, they stayed on the picket line and helped organize a national boycott of Farah products. Their fight ultimately won union representation and a contract with better pay and job protections.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we're recognizing the Hispanic workers who helped shape our labor movement, and the power of workers standing together.

A family who prays together stays together. Our fellowship in prayer over the years on Labor Sunday has been a highlight and treasured memory of my presidency in this awesome organization,
USW LU-9488. As I reflect on this beautiful Labor Day, I am grateful and thankful to our God Lord for the wisdom and strength he has blessed me with in leading our Local. I am also grateful for the guidance, support and training provided to me by the remarkable USW International Leadership. My success is totally attributed to each one of you. So on LABOR DAY 2026, I extend a BIG THANK YOU 🙏 🙏🙏. Have blessed and wonderful Labor Day🎉🤝
