We are teaming up with PhD student Anna Horton to get some perspective about how we access health care in the BVI. This would prove to be a great source of reference for policy makers. All information would be confidential, but the information will be priceless!

With heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of our dear Astrid C. Wenzke who has left us with a void in the very being of the BVI Diabetes Association.

Astrid was a trooper and a warrior for many causes, and for us, she was fighting until she could not any more. She had seen us through many transitions, and helped us to keep record of all of them. She was a leader and one of the most selfless souls to walk this earth.

The BVI was truly blessed to have her. She had been an executive member of the BVI Diabetes Association for many years, and has passed while still actively in office.

She was a friend and confidant, a shoulder to lean on and one of the pillars that held us up.

While we shared her with many other community groups, she had a special place in her heart for us at the BVI Diabetes Association. She will also be missed by the Rotary Club of Tortola, the Lions Club of Tortola, the BVI Red Cross, VirginIslands CancerSociety and the Jaleel Cameron Foundation.

She may have been born in Germany, but her heart was here in the BVI! May her soul rest in eternal peace in her adopted home.

We offer our condolences to all her friends and family, and friends who became family. She was one of a kind… who set the standard for what moving to another country and fully immersing yourself to make it a better place can look like.

Astrid, we hope that we can continue to make you proud while we carry on the work… with you smiling that little smile, looking down from heaven… (where she will probably be looking to see how she can get involved to serve and make it even better for others…🙏🏽)

We are excited to bring our latest campaign to the community: Art Heals, a project to brighten and the walls of the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital here in Road Town, Tortola.

Five artists will lead the way, each being given one large canvas to create artworks with their own unique styles, one for each floor of the hospital.

Each artist has chosen a community group to work with, ensuring members of the public are able to contribute to this important project and highlighting further the breadth of artistic talent that exists within our society.

With deepest gratitude to our five campaign sponsors who have supported this mission from the outset:

💜 Caribbean Insurers Ltd. will suppprt Andrew Esau, who has chosen the charity M.A.L.E as his community partner.

💜 BCQS International will suppprt Walden Benjamin, who has chosen the charity Lemonade as his community partner.

💜 Gold Leaf Consulting Limited will suppprt Via Donovan - Hodge, who has chosen The Imagination Academy as her community partner.

💜 House of Luxury - BVI will suppprt Darryll Bess (Bay Roc), who has chosen The Diabetes Association as his community partner.

💜 Trident Trust will suppprt Simeon Llewellyn who has chosen the Elmore Stoutt High School as his community partner.

With a special thank you to Lisa Gray of Images Custom Framing who is building the 8 x 5 ft canvases for us at cost, and to the staff at the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital who have supported this idea wholeheartedly and who share our commitment to ensuring healing spaces are welcoming, vibrant and support our community.

Our community came together in reflection, faith, and gratitude as we opened Diabetes Awareness Month.🎉

First the moving service at Carrot Bay Methodist Church reminding us that it’s never too late to come back to God’s love and grace. Then to the absolutely delicious luncheon at Tropical Fusion Long Bay, the day was a reminder of how far we’ve come — and how much we can achieve when we stand together.

We give special thanks and recognition to Nurse Tatica Scatliffe, whose dedication to diabetes awareness and community health continues to inspire us all. Her legacy reminds us that awareness begins with compassion. 💙
