Today marks the final day of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign that began on 25 November and concludes today, 10 December — Human Rights Day.
Over the past 16 days, the Zonta Club of Tortola stood alongside our community, national leaders, and advocates around the world to raise awareness and call for an end to violence against women and girls.
This year, we proudly began what we hope will become a lasting tradition by pinning the Speaker and Members of the House of Assembly with orange ribbons — a powerful show of solidarity from our territory’s leaders. We thank them once again for helping to bring visibility to this important cause.
Another highlight of the period was our participation in a roundtable discussion on ending digital violence against women and girls, hosted by Acting Governor Mr. David D. Archer Jr. in collaboration with the Office of Gender Affairs. This important dialogue reinforced the need for continued efforts to address emerging forms of violence in online spaces.
While the campaign may be ending, our advocacy continues. Ending gender-based violence requires year-round commitment, education, and action.
Thank you to everyone who supported and participated. Together, we can build a safer, more equal future for all.
