The Garden’s Horticultural Manager, Sarah Dennis, recently had the incredible opportunity to travel to Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew to participate in an intensive 2-week long Tropical Plant Identification Course. Known worldwide for its leadership in botanical research, conservation, and education, Kew Gardens provided a unique setting for hands-on learning focused on tropical flora from around the globe. Throughout the course, Sarah Dennis explored plant families, identification techniques, herbarium collections, and the importance of accurate plant documentation in conservation work.
This experience not only strengthened the Garden’s botanical knowledge and professional development, but also supports SGVBG’s ongoing mission of plant conservation, education, and preservation of Caribbean biodiversity. The training will directly benefit the Garden’s living collections, interpretive efforts, and future educational programming, while helping staff build valuable connections with other botanical professionals and institutions dedicated to protecting tropical plant life.
