Our July Business After Hours was a popular summer evening with Chamber Members and guests. Keep Left, LLC hosted the event at their restaurant, 1756Grotto, and it did not disappoint.

Chef Aaron prepared delicious appetizers, wine and cocktails flowed, and the service was welcoming. Both Chamber members and nonmembers enjoyed an evening of networking and making new connections.

Chamber Member Gloria of Salt River Marina was the lucky 50/50 winner and generously donated her winnings back to the scholarship fund. Don't miss our August BAH at Levels (go to the comment for registration details)

Thanks to Chamber Member Cal Harms at Sea Thru Kayaks VI for sharing some of her event photos.

Our June St Croix Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours was a big hit with Chamber Members and guests. FirstBank V.I. hosted its first event at its Sunny Isle location on its renovated outdoor patio. The weather, food, and open bar were the perfect complement to an evening of business networking and making new connections.

You don't have to be a Member of the Chamber to attend our monthly networking events. We welcome all members of the St Croix business community to attend.

Join us for our next Business After Hours hosted by Keep Left, LLC at 1756Grotto on Thursday, July 23 at 5:30 PM. Don't forget to RSVP in advance!

‼️REMINDER - New Minimum Wage goes into effect today.

Effective April 24, 2026, the minimum wage in the U.S. Virgin Islands increases to $12.00 per hour under the Virgin Islands Fair Labor Standards Act.

The New Minimum Wage

💲Standard minimum wage: $12.00 per hour, effective April 24, 2026
💲Tipped employees in Tourist Services and Restaurants: $4.80 per hour
💲 Important note for tipped employees: if an employee’s hourly wage plus tips do not add up to $12.00, the employer is required by law to make up the difference

Overtime Pay

Under the VI Fair Labor Standards Act, overtime is paid at time and a half the regular rate of pay for:

💲 Any hours worked over 8 hours in a single day
💲 Any hours worked over 40 hours in a week
💲 Any hours worked on the 6th and/or 7th consecutive day of a workweek

✈️🍽️Special rules for the Tourism and Restaurant Industries:

💲 Overtime on the 6th and 7th consecutive day is paid only if 40 hours were already worked during the first five or six consecutive days
💲 Overtime is paid on the 7th consecutive day regardless
💲 Overtime is exempt on the 6th consecutive day if 40 hours have not been reached during that workweek

The Foreign Languages Department of St. Croix Central High School just returned from their annual educational and cultural trip to Puerto Rico, and the St. Croix Chamber of Commerce was proud to be among the sponsors making it happen.

✈️ Here is a little of what the students got to experience:

A tour of Ana G. Méndez University, where they learned about advanced academic programs and asked the real questions about their futures.

A visit to the traditional town of Loíza, where they exchanged stories with Puerto Rican students their own age and participated in a Bomba workshop, one of Puerto Rico's most powerful cultural traditions rooted in African heritage. And along with Ms. Steele's French students, they translated the workshop into both languages.

Lunch at the Capitolio of Puerto Rico, hosted by Carlos "Johnny" Méndez Núñez, President of the Representative Chamber.

A tour of La Fortaleza, the Governor's residence. Unfortunately, while Governor Jennifer González had plans to greet them personally, an emergency cabinet meeting pulled her away.

Congrats on 9 years of building this experience for Crucian students. We are honored to be part of it.

Huge congratulations to Chairperson Eli A. Torres, Ms. Monifa Steele, Principal Andrea Hobson, and every student who made the most of this trip.

🌟 We are always proud to invest in the future of St. Croix!
