Our cultural corridors…

Two years after completing a major renovation of a St. Thomas thoroughfare, members of the St. Thomas Historical Trust are gearing up to revitalize another historic step street. Volunteers recently spent two days cleaning up portions of Dronnegans Gade East in Charlotte Amalie as a trust board member led a bid for grant funding to lend momentum to this new effort. As we move through March celebrating Virgin Islands History Month, we begin by highlighting the ongoing improvements and maintenance of the historic stepstreets in downtown Charlotte Amalie.

These pathways have connected our community for generations. Built into the hillsides of St. Thomas, these stepstreets are more than infrastructure; they are historic corridors shaped by craftsmanship, movement, and daily life from the Danish colonial period to the present.

Please see our most recent stepstreet cleanup featured in the St. Thomas Source. Donations for this effort are always welcome!
