“Transgender Day of Remembrance seeks to highlight the losses we face due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. I am no stranger to the need to fight for our rights, and the right to simply exist is first and foremost. With so many seeking to erase transgender people—sometimes in the most brutal ways possible—it is vitally important that those we lose are remembered, and that we continue to fight for justice.” —Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) founder Gwendolyn Ann Smith

As PFLAG members and supporters—as human beings—it is imperative that we boldly, loudly, and publicly honor those we have lost to anti-trans violence and hate. Our trans loved ones deserve to thrive and be their authentic selves, not to be the victims, scapegoats, and targets of those with cruel political agendas. PFLAG will continue to fight for equal rights and access to medical care, and advocate side-by-side with our trans loved ones so that they are safe, celebrated, empowered, and loved in every aspect of their lives. 🏳️‍⚧️

Here are some actions you can take this Trans Day of Remembrance:
• Reach out to your local PFLAG chapter to find TDOR events in your area. (Find your chapter at pflag.org/find)
• Take action against trans violence, by joining Fighting For Our Pride. This grassroots, nationwide campaign focuses on advocacy at the state and local levels where the most harmful legislation against our trans loved ones is being passed. Learn more about the campaign, and take the pledge at pflag.org/FightingForOurPride

Why does LGBTQ+ start with “L”? Leading with the “L” is a deliberate choice that honors the role le***ans have played—often behind the scenes—in fighting for the liberation of the entire q***r community:

• When the HIV/AIDS crisis began devastating gay male communities in the 1980s, family members, healthcare workers, and government officials turned their backs on those suffering. Le***ans, on the other hand, stepped up to the plate: they organized blood drives, became nurses and caregivers, fundraised for medical care, marched for policy change, and demanded attention to the crisis when the world wanted to look away.

• Le***ans around the world have been—and continue to be—a driving force of LGBTQ+ activism. From the early days of organizations like the Daughters of Bilitis (the first le***an civil rights group in the U.S.) to the leadership of figures like Audre Lorde, Barbara Gittings, and Phyllis Lyon & Del Martin, le***ans consistently fought for visibility, rights, and justice for LGBTQ+ people everywhere.

To our le***an loved ones across the gender and sexuality spectrum: You are loved, you are valid, and you are valued members of our communities. Happy International Le***an Day! ❤️🧡🤍💗💜
