Fishers from SAE IN LEADER visited Stella Maris again, giving us the opportunity to reconnect and hear more about their journey at sea. We talked about how they began working as fishers, the experiences they have had, and the stories they carry with them. As a small expression of care, we also shared hygiene kits to support their well-being during their time at sea.

Apostolatus Maris Statement on the Recent Loss of Seafarers’ Lives at Sea 🙏🏽

30/09/2026

Stella Maris Uruguay had the opportunity to meet with Ms. Anna Maria Zosa, Honorary Consul of the Republic of the Philippines to Uruguay, to discuss ways of strengthening support for Filipino fishers and seafarers.

Our conversation focused on mental health and well-being, safety and security, legal and paralegal support, and advocacy for their rights and dignity. Life at sea can bring isolation, difficult working conditions, accidents, and challenges far from home. Ensuring that seafarers and fishers feel seen, heard, and supported is an essential part of our mission.

We hope to continue building a network of collaboration and care, working together to respond to the needs of those who spend their lives at sea and to promote their protection, dignity, and well-being.

Meeting the seafarers from MV Aljabera was a meaningful reminder of why our mission matters. As we introduced Stella Maris and shared our mission of supporting seafarers and fishers, they were happy to know that whenever they come to Uruguay, they have a place to rest, relax, and feel at home away from home. We were glad to welcome them, answer their questions, and offer some practical support during their time in port.

We also helped them find their way to the places they wanted to visit and shared hygiene kits, rosaries, magazines, and calendars as small gifts of care. They gladly said they would tell their crewmates about Stella Maris and look forward to coming back on future visits.

As the cold days continue, we are still sharing warm jackets and hygiene kits with fishers and seafarers.
