Zoar Wetland

Zoar Wetland This is the original Zoar Lake formed as an overflow flood storage for the Tuscarawas River
(15)

Historic location of the Zoar Brewery built in 1830 to 1878, then used as the Zoar Dance Hall from 1925 to 1959 when it burnt down. Portion of the foundation remains with a picnic shelter built on top. The shallow lake covers 30 acres and attracts a multitude of birds, including a pair of bald eagles. Our volunteers maintain 1.5 miles of trails through the 52 acres of woodland surrounding the lake

. Volunteers have been making improvements such as starting a Memorial Tree Garden, several butterfly gardens, the Dogwood Grove, and Wally's Bog

A big shout out to Brayden Beatty from Mineral City & his friend Tommy from Navarre. They spent most of Saturday afternoon helping retrieve an abandoned kayak they found overturned in the river with no owner in sight. They also helped rescue two other kayakers who got trapped in the river by the rapids. Police were able to track down the owner of the abandoned kayak from the registration. Everyone is safe tonight!
