Today, we had the opportunity to attend Pride Pathways, a su***de prevention event focused on supporting LGBTQ+ communities and allies. 🏳️‍🌈💚

We were especially glad to partner with our friends at PFLAG Indianapolis for the day! Together, we connected with attendees at our table, shared resources, and represented PFLAG while members of our board also attended the presentation and breakout sessions focused on mental health and advocacy in the LGBTQ+ community.

We left with new knowledge, meaningful connections, and additional crisis-support resources to share with the people and families we serve. We’re grateful for opportunities like this that help us continue learning and strengthen the ways we show up for our community.

Thank you to Equality Indiana and AFSP Indiana Chapter for bringing together such a thoughtful, educational, and well-organized event. ❤️

📚 A Conversation with Nico Lang

Join PFLAG Zionsville/Boone County on September 8 from 6–8 PM for an evening with award-winning journalist and author Nico Lang, author of American Teenager: How Trans Kids Are Surviving Hate and Finding Joy in a Turbulent Era.

American Teenager takes readers across the country to share the lives of transgender, nonbinary, and genderfluid teens and their families—stories of growing up, finding community, navigating a turbulent political landscape, and, importantly, finding joy.

Nico Lang is an award-winning journalist who has spent more than a decade covering the transgender community’s fight for equality. Their work has appeared in Rolling Stone, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Esquire, Vox, The Guardian, and more, and their reporting has been recognized by GLAAD, NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists, and the Los Angeles Press Club.

The evening will include a reading from American Teenager, a moderated conversation with Nico, audience Q&A, and a book signing. Copies of American Teenager will be available for purchase at the event.

If you asked us to describe Zionsville Pride in one word, it would be connection.

Connection through conversations. Through shared stories. Through moments of celebration, support, and belonging.

We heard things like:
“I love PFLAG.”
“PFLAG helped me so much.”
“PFLAG saved my life.”

Those are the moments that remind us why this work matters.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us yesterday. We left a little sunburned, a little rain-soaked, and with very full hearts.

Our own board member, Ashleigh, wrote “If You Were Here” after attending the funeral of a 19-year-old who died by su***de. The song is also deeply informed by her own experiences with su***de loss and grief.

“If You Were Here” is for anyone who has ever felt unseen, unsupported, or alone in their struggle—especially those who have been pushed away by the people or spaces that were meant to help them.

While this song speaks to loss, it also reminds us of the importance of compassion, understanding, and hope.

Research shows that LGBTQ+ young people are significantly more likely to attempt or die by su***de, with this disparity driven by rejection, discrimination, and lack of support…not by their identity.

At PFLAG, we believe that acceptance, affirmation, and community save lives.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please know that support is available. You are not alone. 💜

Today, members of the PFLAG Zionsville/Boone County Board traded keyboards and meeting rooms for gardening gloves and pantry shelves at Trinity Haven.

We spent the day clearing garden beds, pulling weeds and vines, moving planters and trellises, and organizing pantry supplies to help support the residents and staff who make Trinity Haven such an important resource in our community.

Community isn’t built through words alone. It’s built through showing up, lending a hand, sharing a laugh, and sometimes getting a little too excited about an unexpected carrot . 🥕

We’re grateful for the opportunity to support Trinity Haven and their mission of providing safe, affirming housing and support for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults.
