Troop 358

Last weekend scouts from Troops 358, 69, 359, 804, and 219 all attended the National Muzzleloading R***e Assoc. Camporee, put on by the Indiana State R***e and Pistol Assoc. in Friendship, IN.

This has become the annual Fall Camporee for Troop 358 for the last three years, and we always have a great time. The scouts get to learn safe handling and use by experts from around the state while trying their hand at archery, tomahawk throwing, and shooting a variety of guns.

The event started with a bang! (From a real cannon!) We had a full day of pistols, sh****ns, speed shooting, scoped ri**es, and muzzleloading ri**es and handguns.We also had quite a spread of Dutch Oven meals at dinner with BBQ Spare Ribs, Jalapeño Peach Cornbread, Apple Cheddar Crisp, Soda Dump Cake, and Cherry Cobbler. And the night ended with a campfire program and a jokes and stories around the campfire under the sky full of stars on a cool crisp night. 🌙

The best part was that this joint troop activity allowed us to fellowship with our scouts from around Zionsville and Lebanon.

Troop 358 is thrilled to announce that Noah Thomas successfully passed his Eagle Board of Review on Wednesday, September 17th.

Noah spoke to the board about his scouting journey and his Eagle project — from finding a need for a project at his church to the challenges of building the utility shed for the community garden. It's a practical, lasting contribution the community will use for years to come.

The board was impressed with how well prepared Noah was and his clear understanding of what it truly means to be an Eagle Scout. It says a lot about Noah.

With a heavy heart, we wanted to share the news about a passing of one of our own.

Mark Pishon, who formerly served as an Assistant Scoutmaster, Committee Chair, and Fundraising Chair for Troop 358 has passed away.

Mr. Pishon had a lasting impact during his years of service to Troop 358. He improved the financial structure in ways that made high adventure trips possible for more scouts, ensured ample funding for the Troop, created emergency funds, and Troop 358’s Eagle Scout scholarship. He was at the forefront of events like Evasion Weekend and the Hogroast. He was a mentor both to Scouts and to other adults in the troop. He would often encourage adults to take on leadership positions.

He had a deep love for Scouting and Troop 358. He made a difference and had a lasting impact on our Troop and he will be missed.

After a successful Firecraftee Campfire in camp by one of our scouts and after just going over emergency procedures for weather, we got to put those plans into action! The scouts performed admirably and got everyone accounted for and headed to the Inlow tornado shelter with half the camp (about 400 people). We spent 4.5-5 hrs in the bathroom hallways in the basement with Troop 69 out of Trader's Point. It was hot and tight quarters. Our scouts did trivia, played cards, tried to sleep, and, with Troop 69, ran the bathroom lines for all the 400 people sheltering.

We came back to a muddy raccoon ransacked campsite after 1:30am. But, the tents were in decent order. We did a quick clean up and put everything back in the trailer and headed to bed. Before 3am.

We are Alive, Awake, Alert, Ethusiastic 😵‍💫🥱 this morning, the sun is out, and we are back to regular program.

Huge shout out to the Ransburg Staff who were well prepared and organized and kept us all safe and hydrated in the longest shelter-in-place event in Ransburg's History on the actual 60 year Anniversary of Ransburg's founding.

Max Kitchell an Eagle Scout Alumni of Troop 358 continues to represent the troop through additional leadership at Camp Ransburg as Assistant Program Director and recently attending Woodbadge Training last Spring.

Today, Troop 358 went down for our annual tradition of setting up chairs for the Indy 500 parade. It turned out to be a great day. The kids always set up chairs, and then head to the Rocket Fizz Candy shop and Enzo Pizza place before watching the parade.
