The Dollar Difference

You, along with many others, give $1 every month. It's that simple!

Each month, the funds raised will be used to support people doing work centered around adoption, foster care and family preservation in the West Michigan community.

We are excited to share that we will be supporting the CASA program of Ottawa County through Arbor Circle this month with our dollar donations!

Arbor Circle is a West Michigan nonprofit organization that advances mental wellbeing through counseling and supportive services in partnership with people and communities. Through more than 50 programs, Arbor Circle supports children, youth, adults, and families with mental health services, substance use treatment, family support, youth services, foster care and adoption, and prevention programming.

One of these programs is Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Ottawa County, which recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers who advocate for children involved in the child welfare system.

Funds received from The Dollar Difference this month will be used to support activities and resources that help CASA volunteers build meaningful connections with the children they serve. Funds will support admission to local family-friendly attractions and community experiences, as well as sensory tools, fidgets, activity kits, art supplies, games, and developmental resources that volunteers can use during visits. These items and experiences help create opportunities for relationship-building, positive engagement, emotional regulation, and childhood enrichment for children navigating the child welfare system.

May is here and it’s a busy one, but it’s never too busy to celebrate our monthly recipient for The Dollar Difference! This month we are blessed to come alongside the Postma family as they welcome a new child to their family.

The mom, Katie, shared :

“Hello! We are the Postma family, and we’ve been a foster family since 2011, welcoming many bonus family members into our home over the years. We have adopted two of our foster children, and we also have two biological children who are now adults.

Many of the children who have come into our care have had medical complexities, ranging from feeding difficulties, G tubes and NG tubes, to seizures, cerebral palsy, and more. Recently, we welcomed our first child with a tracheostomy who is dependent on a ventilator and supplemental oxygen. It has been a big learning curve, but he has been such an incredible addition to our family!

Because of his needs, there were many items that came highly recommended or were required to help us care for him safely and effectively. We are so very grateful for The Dollar Difference community, who generously supported us by purchasing items from our Amazon wish list…G tube covers, sheets, and even some toys he loved at the hospital but could not bring home.

They also gave financially, which allowed us to purchase a second crib for our living room, specialized monitors so we can keep a close eye on him, and storage for all of his medical equipment.

When we say “yes” to a child in need, especially one who has spent his first year in the hospital and has significant medical complexities, the required items add up quickly. When ministries like The Dollar Difference ask, “How can we help?” it is such a meaningful gift. It reminds us that we are seen and supported by a community that cares deeply about families like ours.

So truly, thank you! Thank you for supporting The Dollar Difference. Thank you for giving and helping families like ours continue to step into the hard and beautiful work of caring for vulnerable children. Thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus, we appreciate you more than we can say. Your support helps us keep going.”

Thank you Holland Farmers Market for partnering with our Activity Library again this Summer. We are so excited to add the ‘Power of Produce’ bucks to our offerings for the foster families we serve, and are thrilled to give kids the opportunity to shop for their own fruits and veggies at the farmer’s market! 🍉 🍎 🥦 🥕

We’re so grateful for the support of the Holland Junior Welfare League! ❤️

Because of their generosity, we were able to add 25 Holland Aquatic Center passes to our Activity Pass Library. This is a favorite activity for many of the foster families that we serve so we are excited to replenish our stock of passes.
