This year, we’re changing things up with a more relaxed, come-and-enjoy-the-evening kind of feel. Great food throughout the night, drinks, time to catch up with friends, raffle prizes, a silent auction, and plenty of reasons to stick around.

And behind all the fun is something we care deeply about: helping more children grow up with books, reading and the strong start they deserve.

We are so excited!

A new chapter is ahead for Reach Out and Read Michigan!

On Nov. 1, Reach Out and Read Michigan will officially join Reach Out and Read, Inc., building on years of growth — and now serving more than 109,000 children across the state.

This transition will strengthen Reach Out and Read Michigan’s ability to support pediatric sites and connect more families with early literacy resources during a child’s earliest years. 📚

November 1 marks a new chapter for Reach Out and Read Michigan, and we’re pretty excited about what’s ahead.

While our organizational home is changing, the heart of our work is staying right here in Michigan. Our Michigan team, our relationships with clinics and partners across the state, and our commitment to helping children and families grow through books and reading aren’t going anywhere.

What is changing? We’ll now have an even stronger connection to Reach Out and Read nationally, with more resources and support behind the work already happening throughout Michigan.

We can’t wait to see what this next chapter brings.

Big news for Reach Out and Read Michigan!

Today we have two pieces of news: one about where Reach Out and Read Michigan is headed, and one about Ready for School.

Beginning November 1, Reach Out and Read Michigan will move its organizational and fiscal home from Ready for School to Reach Out and Read, Inc., the national organization.

For clinics and families, nothing changes. The Michigan team stays in place. The relationships we've built with clinics and community partners continue. Children keep receiving books and early literacy support at their well-child visits, from the same providers they already know. What does change is what stands behind them: the resources, expertise, and infrastructure of a national organization supporting the program as it keeps growing across Michigan.

And with that program settled into its new home, Ready for School will sunset in 2026.

Ready for School was built to answer one question: how do we help more children enter school ready to learn? A lot has changed since then. Affordable early education and family support have expanded across Michigan, the result of many organizations and advocates pushing in the same direction, and Ready for School was proud to be one of them in West Michigan. With the landscape stronger than when we began, and this work in good hands, it is the right time.

What began as a community coming together around a shared goal grew further than anyone imagined in those early years. That was never ours alone. It belonged to the funders, the clinics, the providers, and the families who believed from the start that we could do more for our youngest children.

We have much more to say in the coming weeks about the people who got us here. For now, thank you.

A child may leave a Reach Out and Read visit carrying a new book, but what we’re really hoping to send home is something much bigger.

We want parents and caregivers to leave knowing that the time they spend talking, reading, singing and sharing stories with their child matters, even when their baby is too young to understand the words or their toddler wants to read the same page over and over again.

Books give healthcare providers a natural way to start those conversations with families and give parents something tangible they can continue using at home.

The book matters, but everything that happens around it is where so much of the magic begins.

We’ve shared that Reach Out and Read Michigan will move its organizational home to Reach Out and Read Inc. on November 1, but we know an organizational change can leave people wondering what will actually feel different.

For most of the families and clinics we serve, the answer is very little!

Reach Out and Read Michigan will still be focused on Michigan children and families, our Michigan team will remain in place, and the relationships we’ve developed with clinics and partners across the state will continue.

Behind the scenes, we’ll gain more direct access to national resources, training, technology, expertise and collaboration that can help us strengthen the program and support continued growth.

We’re still Reach Out and Read Michigan, and we’re excited about having even more support behind the work we do here.

Reach Out and Read starts with something families are already doing during the earliest years of a child’s life: visiting their healthcare provider.

By bringing early literacy into pediatric care, healthcare providers have an opportunity to talk with parents about reading, language and development during regular well child visits, while also giving children a new book to take home.

That means families aren’t being asked to find another program, attend another class or add another appointment to an already busy schedule. Support for early literacy becomes part of the healthcare relationship they already have.

It’s one of the reasons we’re so passionate about continuing to bring Reach Out and Read to more children and families throughout Michigan.
