Zapata High School Student Wins Texas Lions Outstanding Youth Award Contest🎉

Sebastian Zapata, a junior at Zapata High School, won first place in the 2025-2026 Texas Lions Outstanding Youth Award Contest held online on Saturday, May 16, 2025.

Sebastian was one of eight statewide competitors. The contest required participants to write a 750–1,000 word essay on "AI and its Impact on Education," submit a school transcript and biographical statement, and outline their community service and leadership experience. A panel of judges also interviewed the students on AI-related topics and current world events.

He will receive a $3,000 scholarship from the Texas Lions upon college registration, as well as a $500 scholarship from District 2-A3. Zapata High School, Zapata Lions Club, and the community are proud of Sebastian’s accomplishments and wish him the best in his future pursuits. Sebastian was sponsored by the Zapata Lions Club and represented District 2-A3 in this competition.
