Bach to Broadway
The Thursday Music Club and Secrest Auditorium & Music Hall join together
to present Bach to Broadway Saturday May 6, 7:30 pm. Secrest doors open at 7:00
pm. This concert will showcase the music talents of youth and adults of the
Zanesville/Muskingum County Community. This year the Thursday Music Club
celebrates 113 years of offering free public concerts. Everett Jackson, Thursday
Music Club president and Rick Sabine, Secrest Auditorium manager are pleased to
be able to offer this concert free and open to the public. Franklin Printing is also a
sponsor for the concert. The Master of Ceremonies for the concert is Nicole Hannah
from the WHIZ Media Group.
Nearly 80 local musicians will perform during the concert. Featured
performers are Bill Barrett, Nate Terry, and the Civic Chorus Chamber Singers.
Summer Music Camp Scholarship winners performing are pianist, Truett Howell,
and vocalist, Josiah Gross. Several youth from the Junior Music Club will also
perform.
Bill Barrett currently resides in Redondo Beach, California. He was born in
Zanesville and was valedictorian at Philo High School. He started playing organ at
church at age 13. He received scholarships to study music at Oberlin College
Conservatory of Music. He received a Master of Divinity degree from Union
Theological Seminary. He presently works for Barnes & Noble as a front-end web
developer for their e-commerce website. He also is a piano teacher.
Nate Terry currently resides in Columbus, Ohio. He was born in Zanesville
and was graduated from John Glenn High School. He started playing church services
at Central Trinity United Methodist Church as a youth and accompanying the John
Glenn high school choirs as well as playing piano for their dramatic presentations.
He is a music major graduate from Capital University. He is director of music
ministry at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Columbus. He is owner of Major 7 music
publishing company which provides music for piano, organ, voice and choral music.
He often writes commissioned music compositions. He is accompanist and vocal
coach at Capital University and accompanist for Capriccio.
The Chamber Singers is a smaller version of the Zanesville Civic Chorus. The
Civic Chorus is known for their 93 year tradition of performing Handel’s “Messiah”
Oratorio each December in Zanesville, one of the oldest choral music traditions in
Ohio. The Civic Chorus performed “Messiah” in Carnegie Hall, NYC in 2019. Under
the direction of Ann Lillie Briggs, the chamber singers offer unique spring choral
concerts each year sponsored by the Thursday Music Club. One of their numbers on
the Bach to Broadway Concert was especially arranged by Nate Terry.
