Perry County Farm Bureau

Perry County Farm Bureau Representing your agricultural needs and promoting agriculture in your community! Farm Bureau is a grass-roots member-based organization.

You don’t need to be a farmer to join. In fact, most of our members are not farmers. The organization is arranged by county, with each county governed by a volunteer board, which develops an annual county agenda. Farm Bureau began in 1919 to represent farmers and rural dwellers. In 1926, Farm Bureau leaders decided to start an auto insurance company because they believed they were being overcharge

d by established insurers. Common sense told them it was only fair that rural drivers pay less for their auto insurance because they had fewer traffic accidents than city motorists. On that belief, Ohio Farm Bureau Federation incorporated the Farm Bureau Mutual Automobile Insurance Company with a $10,000 loan. In 1955, Farm Bureau Mutual was renamed Nationwide Insurance. Today, Ohio Farm Bureau is Ohio’s largest general
farm organization. Ohio Farm Bureau strives to forge a partnership between farmers and consumers. OFBF’s core values are integrity and honesty, grassroots involvement, member advocacy and farming’s contribution to the world. We represent our farmer and consumer members on important legislative issues, such as renewable fuels, private property rights, farmland preservation, wildlife control and more. We strive to keep consumers connected to producers and local farmers in business.

“The re-emergence of New World screwworm in the United States after 60 years will have an immediate impact on farmers and ranchers in the affected areas. We are confident that the longstanding coordination between the states and USDA will enable a quick response and hopefully limit the negative impacts and resulting market volatility," said American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall. "It's our job to try to find out-of-the-box ways to reduce pressure on farmland," said Ohio Farm Bureau Director of State Policy Evan Callicoat. "Brownfield remediation is one of them. It doesn't scream agriculture, but it's significant, trying to locate large industrial projects where all the utilities and infrastructure are already there instead of on farmland."
