Hello everyone,
Rescue Road Trips was established years ago from a need Greg saw firsthand in the southern United States. The shelters were overcrowded, homeless dogs were on every street corner and the rescue warriors were tired. Dogs needed loving homes but adopters were not local, hence the RRT pipeline for southern dogs to northern families began. Over the past 18.5 years we have held tight to this mission and with the unwavering support of our rescue partners, volunteers and supporters we have safely transported over 100,000 dogs, giving them a better life.
As most of you are aware, RRT has not been operating its scheduled runs due to health setbacks with Greg. These health concerns started in December 2022 and became more serious in early 2023 causing us to suspend our scheduled runs. While Greg’s health continues to improve, it is becoming more apparent that returning to the previous route is not sustainable. Simply put, Greg just cannot continue push himself as hard as he once could. Greg’s life on the road has never been one of luxury, but his passion for helping the dogs and seeing the excitement with their new families kept him going.
With that being said, the time has now come to explore what the future of RRT will look like. We are still as dedicated to our mission as we were when we began, but now must pivot to balance our dedication with what is physically feasible for Greg, reducing the amount of time Greg is on the road as well as the availability of a healthier lifestyle including but not limited to showering, sleeping, healthy eating and being with his loved ones.
As such, RRT will not be resuming the regularly scheduled route. We will be moving to a charter option, defined as where the transport would be hired to pick up several dogs from a single location and drop off at another location.
Cutting back is always something that causes great stress between our hearts and what our physical abilities currently are, but it is something that is necessary. With this change, Adella will be joining Greg on the road for each chartered transport. We are excited that this change will allow us to continue to help rescue dogs while allowing Greg to live a lifestyle that is more viable for the coming years. We are going to start making the needed changes to the truck/trailer, website and licensures as needed in the next couple months and hope to have everything in order to start transporting rescue dogs once again.
We are very excited about these changes overall but also nervous moving forward to the unknown. We are optimistic knowing that we were able to make a difference for so many dogs over the past years! You never know what you can do until you try! Please keep your eyes and ears open! There are only exciting things happening from here on out! As always, thanks to each of you for being in our corner with your never-ending support! RRT will not work without each of you and we hope that you will join us as we begin navigating through our next journey.
Sincerely,Greg and Adella Mahle
