Dr. Toler retired from the position of Director of Gifted Services and Enrichment Programs at Worthington City Schools in 2013 where she was a trailblazer as the first African American Administrator to be hired in the district. During her 35 years as an educator she served in various roles, including being an adjunct Professor at The Ohio State University. She presently serves as a Consultant and Professional Development Facilitator at Toler & Associates Consulting Firm. She was educated at The Ohio State University where she earned a BS, MA and Ph.D degree. Dr. Toler completed post doctoral work at Harvard University. Brenda has provided Book Scholarships to the Muskingum County NAACP and the Martin Luther King Foundation Prayer Breakfast in memory of her parents, Florence and James Toler, to assist students with their college careers. Dr. Toler has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors including, the Muskingum County Branch NAACP Image Award Recipient (2018), Induction into the Zanesville City Schools Hall of Fame (2017), The OSU College of Education Alumni Association Career Achievement Award (1997), and the Centennial Community Service Award from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Dr. Toler has served on numerous boards and holds membership and offices in various professional, social, civic, service and religious organizations. She is the daughter of the late James and Florence Toler. She enjoys traveling, gardening, music, creating home decoration crafts, doing Card Ministry, being a community volunteer and being an avid OSU Buckeye Fan.
