In recognition of Children’s Grief Awareness Day, November 19, Dougy Center is offering a virtual panel discussion, "The Child We Once Were: How lived experience shapes the way we support kids who are grieving." Featuring professionals who experienced the death of someone significant during their own childhood, panelists will reflect on what they needed from the adults around them, what was helpful, and what they wish had been different.

Through lived experience and professional insight, the conversation will explore how childhood grief shapes the way we support children and families who are grieving today. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how small, intentional actions can make a meaningful difference in a child’s grief journey.

Organizations nationwide are partnering with young people to help shape programs, policies and systems impacting their lives. Youth engagement, however, can take many forms. Absent a shared framework, organizations can use similar language while still operating from very different assumptions about roles, authority and leadership. This tool kit from the Annie E. Casey Foundation provides a practical framework for creating and advancing genuine youth-adult partnership for community change work. It was developed through the Foundation’s Intergenerational Learning Collaborative, a two-year process in which pilot organizations, youth leaders, adult partners and technical assistance providers tested and refined approaches to shared leadership across generations.

Celebrating National Adoption Day... share your celebrations with us!

What a special morning spending National Adoption Day at the St. Tammany Parish Courthouse. 💛

Judge Scott Gardner has always been such a champion for children and families. He will certainly be missed in the courtroom, but I can’t wait to see what he does in his next chapter.

After a few heartfelt words from Judge Gardner, five adoptions were finalized this morning. Watching those families walk out of the courtroom together, celebrating the moment they officially became forever families, was incredibly sweet.

What a beautiful reminder of what National Adoption Day is all about. ❤️
