There has been some recent chatter questioning Cheryl Plaugher’s qualifications to serve as a County Commissioner. We’ve shared her background and experience, and it’s clear she is just as — if not more — qualified than members currently serving on the board.
But it also raises an important question: what truly qualifies someone to be a commissioner? What qualifications did the current board members have before they were elected?
Most people run for office because they care about their community and want to make a difference. We believe Cheryl Plaugher is that difference Nassau County needs.
Leadership is not just about titles — it’s about dedication, integrity, and the willingness to serve the people. Cheryl has demonstrated all three, and we are proud to support her.
Cheryl was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, where she grew up surrounded by strong family roots in cattle ranching and agriculture through her grandparents, who were lifelong farmers. She has proudly called Nassau County home for over ten years. A devoted wife and accomplished corporate professional for two decades, she brings the discipline, strategic thinking, and accountability of the private sector to public service.
Cheryl gained real-world experience early, becoming a licensed Florida real estate agent at 18. This foundation gave her valuable insight into land use, property rights, and balanced development expertise. She will bring thoughtful, community-focused decision-making to the County Commission.
A University of Florida graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness, Food, and Resource Economics, Cheryl has spent the past two decades in medical marketing. In this role, she developed strong strategic planning, clear communication, and problem-solving skills transferable to public service.
An equestrian at heart, Cheryl has enjoyed hunting, riding and other outdoor recreation in District 4 for most of her adult life and has a deep personal connection to Nassau County’s open land and rural character. That love of the outdoors fuels her commitment to preserving the natural beauty that makes this county a special place to live and her determination to ensure it remains that way for generations to come.
Cheryl is a proud and vocal supporter of law enforcement and first responders. As the wife of a police officer and “mom” to K9 Huk, who retired after being shot in the line of duty, Cheryl has an unwavering appreciation for the sacrifices made by our first responders and believes the men and women who serve our community deserve strong leadership and support. Cheryl will champion the resources, training, and respect our law enforcement and emergency personnel deserve.
Driven by principles of faith and rooted in this community, Cheryl is running because she has been personally affected by the same development concerns that impact us all, and she wants to ensure the people who call Nassau County home have a voice in the decision-making process. She will bring a strong, independent voice to the County Commission focused on transparency, balanced growth, fiscal responsibility, public safety, and putting Nassau County families first.
