Kingsland Fire Rescue is mourning the passing of long time Fire Chief Morris Peeples. Chief Peeples served as the fire chief of Kingsland for 57 years. Chief Peeples has been a mentor to so many firefighters from Georgia to Florida. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and our brothers and sisters in Kingsland.

This Day in Fire History

June 30, 2013 – Yarnell Hill Fire (19 firefighters killed)
On this day in 2013 a wildfire ignited by lightning overran and killed 19 members of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew. It was the greatest loss of life for firefighters in a wildfire since the 1933 Griffith Park Fire and the greatest loss of firefighters in the United States since the 9/11 attacks.

Think today about the virtues we celebrate on Memorial Day: service, sacrifice, loyalty. Stay conscious of those virtues today and make the extra effort to demonstrate them. We can never bring back our fallen soldiers, but we can honor them in our daily actions.

“Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it. It flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it.” – Unknown
