THRIFT STORE MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary:
The Thrift Store Manager oversees the daily operations of a thrift store, including staff supervision, customer service, donation processing, merchandising, inventory control, and sales performance. The manager ensures the store remains clean, organized, profitable, and welcoming to shoppers and donors.
Key Responsibilities:
Store Operations
- Manage daily store operations
- Open and close the store
- Maintain cleanliness and organization
- Monitor cash handling and deposits
- Ensure compliance with store policies and safety procedures
Staff & Volunteer Management
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise employees and volunteers
- Provide coaching and performance feedback
- Maintain adequate staffing coverage
- Foster a positive team environment
Customer Service
- Provide excellent customer service
- Resolve customer concerns professionally
- Create a welcoming atmosphere for customers and donors
- Build positive community relationships
Donations & Inventory
- Oversee donation intake and sorting
- Price and merchandise donated items
- Monitor inventory levels and product quality
- Remove damaged or unsold items as needed
Merchandising & Sales
- Create attractive product displays
- Coordinate sales promotions and seasonal events
- Monitor sales trends and pricing strategies
Administrative Duties
- Prepare sales and operational reports
- Manage budgets and expenses
- Coordinate with upper management or nonprofit leadership
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Retail management experience preferred
- Experience supervising staff or volunteers
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Basic computer and cash register/POS knowledge
- Ability to lift 40-50 pounds
Preferred Skills
- Thrift or resale experience
- Merchandising and pricing knowledge
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Work Environment
- Retail store setting
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and bending
- Weekend and occasional evening work may be required
Typical Salary Range
- Approximately $35,000 to $55,000 annually depending on experience and location
