Good evening, friends!

Here’s a quick update straight from Heath Woods, who’s been hard at work:

“I went through the wiring to figure out what was keeping the engine from running. Found a bad ground cable and a few corroded pins in the harness. Got a new ground mocked up, polished it, and cleaned the pins in the fuse box. Now the engine runs!

Tested the clutch and transmission, it moves on its own!

Had a few awesome people stop by to help me move tubs around. Now it’s back to my lonely late night Jeep work.

Next step is fabricating all new body mounts to get this early CJ5 tub to fit onto the late CJ5 chassis.”


We’re beyond thankful for Heath and the amazing team helping keep this project alive. While Recoil Outdoor may have gone quiet temporarily, the mission hasn’t stopped! Joel’s Jeep is still coming together thanks to Heath and the crew.

As of today, Recoil Outdoor is temporarily pausing operations. A few key members have upcoming obligations, and we all need a significant reset to focus on personal matters. It may be a year or two before we’re ready to resume operations, and we will reevaluate at a later date.

Sometimes, the road we travel isn’t always smooth. For Joel, a veteran, that road has been filled with more than its fair share of challenges. But here at Recoil Outdoor, we believe in the power of community, adventure, and the healing that comes from getting our hands dirty together.

Joel’s story is one of resilience, courage, and strength. We’ve been working on a Jeep build for Joel, but this is about much more than just a vehicle. It’s about giving back to someone who’s given so much to us. It’s about creating opportunities for healing and restoration through offroading and adventure. It’s about showing that no one fights their battles alone.

But we can’t do this without you. We need your help to get this Jeep ready for Joel and to continue our mission of supporting veterans like him. Whether you can contribute time, parts, or connections, your support means the world.

We can’t wait to see everyone at the Brave Escape - Coppermines event starting today!

Just a few quick reminders -
You are responsible for your own sleeping arrangements and camping! Tent camping is available, cot camping in the shop is allowed, and they do have hotels nearby at Altus if that’s more your thing.

Food - Be responsible for yourself! Pack some food, cook on your blackstones, whatever you want to do. Just please no open fire cooking, fire risk is super high right now.

Clothes - terrain is uneven, lots of aggressive vegetation, bring long pants and boots! If you plan to kayak/paddleboard/swim then obviously bring appropriate clothing for that.

Sunscreen - Even if it feels nice out, the sun will still try to kill you. Always put a layer on, because I can guarantee if you’re outside all day, you’ll wish you had.

Vehicles - always do a thorough pre-inspection! It sucks to get hyped up for a fun weekend just to break 5 minutes in because you sent it hard without checking after your last trip. Check fluids, bolts, and come with a full tank! 🤘🏻

Common Courtesy - this is private property. We’ve been afforded an extremely rare opportunity to tear up at a park that’s been closed down for a long time. This place is absolutely beautiful and needs to be kept that way. Please pick up your trash, and just be respectful. It’s someone else’s land, so remember to treat it that way. We’re really hoping to do more events here, so let’s show the land owner we’re a good group of people!

Fun - absolutely mandatory. Remember we all have to go back to our day jobs Monday, so make the most of your time here! Any of the recoil outdoor staff are open books. If you have questions about ANYTHING, don’t hesitate to approach us!

We're still in disbelief about how well America Night at Red Dirt Raceway went!

You wanna talk about support - WOW. Red Dirt Raceway - Meeker, OK SHOWED UP for us. They donated the Ta**us for us to raffle, they gave out free admission tickets to get us a huge crowd, they let us drive on the track for a flag parade (amazing experience), and they donated half of the racing pot to us!

Thank you guys SO MUCH. It was by far the most successful fundraising experience we've ever had, and it's going to be so difficult to beat. We're excited about the impact and reach we can have with the donations from that night. We'll be able to provide great experiences for a lot of veterans in need. So if you know a veteran that doesn't get out much, have them reach out to us! You don't have to face your problems alone. We're here to make memories and do life together.

Huge congrats to our raffle winner for winning the freedom seed dispenser! He's a volunteer firefighter, and we can't wait to have him out to the Coppermines Brave Escape event in October!

We're extremely proud to work with amazing businesses like Red Dirt Raceway. It really shows what you can achieve when everyone works together.

Not to mention - it was a TON of fun! Already looking forward to the next one.

Meet at 10 Acre Lake Park 4:00-4:15pm, leaving at 4:30 promptly! There's going to be all kinds of classes racing at Red Dirt Raceway, a raffle (all proceeds going to us!), and more!

Don't forget this Saturday is America Night at Red Dirt Raceway!

We'll be meeting at 10 Acre Lake Park in Choctaw on the Southwest side. We'll be convoying out to Red Dirt Raceway at 4:30pm sharp, so be there at 4:00-4:15. We'll have tickets for free entry there to give out!

We'll also be raffling off a freedom seed dispenser! $10/ticket or $20/3 tickets.

It's going to be a great time, so please come out and show this track your support!
