Ham Lends Helping Hand to Ham.

“Ham” is short for Amateur Radio operator. Harold Neuendorff KE6CWS—braved several hours Sunday morning June 9 helping Alton Johnson—K6SDA—take down Alton’s 55-foot ham antenna tower. You may have seen it almost across the street from our church parking lot.

Alton and Harold crossed paths a few days earlier on a weekday outside the church. Alton was walking his dog, and Harold was about to set up the wires for a church program that evening. Al mentioned his tower project. Harold said he had helped his father take down a tower like Alton’s, and offered to add this difficult deed to his list of service duties. Who better could Providence have provided! A month earlier Alton had sprained his ankle, and it was still too “sorely” swollen to stand on a ladder.

Alton has been a ham since age 13 and has talked to other “hams” in over 50 countries worldwide. He says, “It was through ham radio that I met my wife, Bonnie.” They thank God for protecting Harold during this procedure and for Harold’s kind heart.
