PRO LIFE: THEN & NOW
We were born to do this. You were born to do this.
Over 50 years ago a few states were passing laws legalizing some abortions. 49 years ago, on January 22, 1973, the US Supreme Court ruled in Roe v. Wade and Bolton v. Doe abortion became legal in all 50 States without any restrictions during the first three months, with some restrictions during the second three months (could require it be performed in a medical facility), and for the life and health of the mother (including mental health) during the last three months of pregnancy. This created a great divide in our Country.
In 1979 the Yuba-Sutter Right to life committee was established here in Yuba City and in 1981 opened a 24 hour hotline. A few years later Please Let Me Live started in Yuba City and was responsible for picketing 6 abortion doctors. These doctors either retired, left town, or stopped doing abortions. In 1987 the Life Chain began in Yuba City and it spread throughout the world. In 1992, A Woman’s Friend was created in Marysville. In 2004. 40 Days for Life started in Texas and in 2014, Yuba City had our first 40 days for life campaign in front of Planned Parenthood. In 2016 Donald Trump was elected president after promising to appoint judges who would follow the Constitution. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor had stated in 1983 that the Roe decision was on a collision course with itself. It just collided. On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court reversed Roe v. Wade in the Dobbs v Jackson case by simply revisiting the Roe decision on Constitution principles following the analysis that had been expressed by even liberal constitutional lawyers.
The choice to allow or restrict abortion has now returned to the States as it should have been from the beginning. But now we need to deal with California where we have a pro-abortion governor and legislature. Bills have been proposed and passed further expanding access to abortion. Governor Newsom has declared California an abortion sanctuary state using your tax dollars to pay for transportation and housing for any woman who wants to travel here to have a free abortion. But the most grievous strategy is the attempt to create a California Constitutional Amendment to enshrine the right to an abortion up until the baby’s birth. This is Proposition 1 and it will be on the November ballot. More about that next month.
Today we want to let you know that our local 40 Day for Life Campaign will start September 28, and end November 6th. We will peacefully stand, as we have for the last 8 years, in front of Planned Parenthood at 430 N. Palora in Yuba City, holding signs stating “pray to end abortion” and other pro-life messages. We know from former Planned Parenthood employees who have quit (so far over 242) that as many as 70% do not show up for their appointment when we are outside praying. We know from personal experience that a simple conversation and educational materials can change her mind.
The more people praying the more effective we will be and more lives can be saved. Some pray with us every day but some days the numbers are few. It can be lonely out there without you. 22,013 babies and their moms have been saved and 120 abortion centers have closed. Please call 530-713-8570 or go to 40daysforlife.com/yubacity to sign up for specific days and times. Our goal is to save babies and their moms from abortion, perhaps change the mind of an abortion worker or maybe even shut down this Planned Parenthood. We believe we can win this battle for the soul of America fighting this abomination against the Sanctity of human life because we have God on our side and because we and you were born to do this.
