Celebrating a legacy of community service and media excellence!

“Apna Punjab,” a weekly local TV program, was launched in 1994 by Jasbir and Jasjit Kang. Jasjit went on to carry the program forward for 18 years, dedicating himself to keeping the Yuba Sutter Punjabi American community informed and connected.

The show covered a wide range of local and international events and diverse issues, and was proudly sponsored by the Punjabi American Heritage Society.

In recognition of his outstanding service, Jasjit was honored in 2006 by the *Appeal-Democrat* newspaper for his contributions to the community.

🌟 **A Little History of Punjabi Sikh Pioneers in Yuba City** 🌟

Bibi Nand Kaur was likely the **first Punjabi Sikh woman** to settle in Yuba City when she arrived in **1920**! 🙏
While Sikhs began arriving in the area around **1906**, her husband **Punna Singh** is considered one of the first Punjabis to settle here. Due to strict **immigration laws** at the time, most men couldn’t bring their families over.

In this beautiful photo, Nand Kaur is seen honoring **Bimal Kaur Khalsa**—a **fearless speaker**, former **Member of Parliament**, and dedicated **human rights activist** who visited Yuba City in **1991**. ✊

🎬 Today, Bimal Kaur Khalsa’s inspiring life story is being celebrated in the film **“Chardikala,”** now screening in theaters across the **United States**!

Let’s honor these pioneers and keep their stories alive. 💙
