🎉Congratulations Kenny! Our Better Way Participant of the Week 🎉

Kenny experienced homelessness for many years. Our HEART Outreach Team first connected with him in 2022. In May 2025, after being abated from his campsite, he began utilizing the 2nd Street Camp, where our team was able to engage with him more consistently and slowly build trust.

After several months, Kenny chose to enter Better Way. During his time at the shelter, he focused on improving his health and, with support from his ECM provider at Harmony Health, was able to attend his medical appointments regularly. The Better Way team assisted Kenny with obtaining his birth certificate, ID and other critical documents needed for housing.

As he stabilized in shelter, we saw his health and overall well-being improve. Kenny regularly helped with chores, stayed committed to his goals, and worked diligently on his housing plan. His hard work paid off, and he successfully secured permanent housing THIS WEEK!

We are incredibly proud of Kenny and all the progress he has made!

🎉Meet Sandra - the Better Way Participant of the Week!
Sandra has been truly wonderful during her time at Better Way shelter. She’s consistently kind to both staff and fellow participants, always willing to lend a hand, and quick to ask how she can help even more. She completes her chores with care and brings a positive, supportive energy to the shelter every day.

We’re grateful to have her here—she’s been an absolute pleasure to work with!

🎉 Congrats to Erik for being successfully housed! 🏠

Erik came into Better Way shelter as a justice-involved referral through Sutter County Probation Department and worked tirelessly alongside shelter staff and community partners to achieve his goals of securing stable housing, employment, and greater self-sufficiency. Throughout his time at Better Way, Erik remained committed to his goals and successfully completed Recovery Court, making an important accomplishment in his journey.

Erik was also connected with Sutter County One Stop, where he received employment assistance and successfully secured employment. Through his determination, perseverance, and willingness to utilize the support and resources available to him, Erik ultimately achieved both stable housing and employment.

Erik was truly a pleasure to have at shelter. His hard work, perseverance, and success serve as a shining example of what can be achieved through determination and support. 🎉
