Outfitter’s Legacy Project showed up strong with Top of the State Backcountry Horsemen at the Jefferson State Expo this weekend 🤎

Grateful to be part of a community that still values grit, skill, and the next generation learning it firsthand.

A little speed, a little chaos, and a lot of laughs.

These two went head to head in a packing challenge and gave it everything they had. One came out on top and, true to form, celebrated with a victory dance we won’t be forgetting anytime soon.

Good work, good attitudes, and the kind of fun that keeps them coming back.

This is how we build skill and keep it light at the same time.

On this day the kids got to step into a real moment of horsemanship and responsibility. Dr. Essex walked them through a c**t castration, explaining every step along the way. What it takes, why it matters, and how we care for these animals the right way.

This is the side of the work you don’t always see. It’s not flashy, but it’s part of raising good stock and becoming capable hands.

Proud of these kids for showing up, asking questions, and being willing to learn the whole picture.

Practice days around here come with a lot of learning… and a lot of laughing.

A big thank you to our Top of the State Unit of the Backcountry Horsemen of California!

Our BCHC Unit is proud to be partnering with and helping sponsor the Outfitter's Legacy Project youth packing and horsemanship education this year, starting on March 8. The youth who have previously signed up will be learning from the OLP coaches at Double H Ranch in Yreka. Thank you, Pat Hampton-Hayes, for hosting these events at your beautiful facility!

Looking for Insurance Know How in Our Community 🤎

The Outfitter’s Legacy Project is ready to move forward with our youth and veteran horsemanship and backcountry programs, but we are currently at a standstill while working through the insurance requirements needed to operate safely and responsibly.

We are hoping to connect with someone in our community who has experience with
• Nonprofit or equine program insurance
• Outdoor or youth program risk management

If this is in your wheelhouse and you would be willing to share some guidance as a volunteer, it could make a real difference in helping these programs move forward.

Please send us a message if you are open to connecting, or if you know someone we should talk to.

Thank you to the Top of the State Unit of Backcountry Horsemen of California for their generous $1,000 donation to help get our kids to Bishop

Backcountry Horsemen was the start of why the vision for The Outfitter’s Legacy Project is even alive today. Their dedication to keeping public lands open, cared for, and accessible is what inspired the creation of this organization to start teaching the next generation of packers and backcountry stewards.

We're so excited to continue our support of The Outfitter's Legacy Project Young Mule Co. youth packing teams. You can support them too at https://www.outfitterslegacyproject.org/.
