A farm in Vermont lost its rooster to old age back in the spring, and within a couple of weeks the barn cat had quietly taken over the job.

Every morning Biscuit walks out to the coop, waits by the door, and leads the hens out into the yard in a loose line behind him.

He does a slow lap of the fence, the hens following the whole way, and then he sits down and lets them get on with their day.

The farmer says he never trained him to do any of it and has stopped trying to explain it to people who visit.

Important info for cat caregivers ➡️ If you plan to do Trap-Neuter-Return ( ) during the summer, take extreme heat into account.

🚫 Never leave cats outdoors in humane traps in summer heat. As soon as the trap shuts, move the cat to a cool, temperature-controlled space. Cats can get heat stroke just like people--and it can happen faster than you think. In fact, it can take as little as 15 minutes.

📚🐾 ICYMI: Earlier this month, we shared our Cat S*x Ed series—and if you missed it, it's not too late to catch up! 💛

Throughout the series, we covered some surprising facts about feline reproduction, busted common myths, and explained why spay/neuter is one of the most important tools we have to combat overpopulation.

If you didn't see all the posts (or want a refresher), take a few minutes to scroll back through our page and check them out. You may be surprised by what you learn!

Thank you to everyone who followed along and helped us spread the word. Education is a huge part of saving lives, and together we can make a difference for community cats. ❤️🐾

At this time of year, there are few things more frustrating to a rescuer than when people give kittens away to strangers for free! It is irresponsible to do so and almost never in the best interest of the kitten.

We are in the middle of a cat over population crisis because too many individuals have not taken responsibility to fix and vaccinate the cats they have chosen to keep and/or to feed.
Cats are prolific breeders and induced ovulators, so they are prone to be slaves to their hormones until they die or are sterilized.

In a local facebook group post less than two hours ago, an anonymous poster said that a friendly kitten had followed them home and didn't know what to do with them. We headed out immediately to look for the kitten because the photo that was posted clearly indicated that the kitten was in need of veterinary care.

Based on the anonymous poster's comments, they rehomed the kitten to a complete stranger. I can only cross my fingers and hope that the individual taking the kitten has the financial resources to take them to a veterinarian tomorrow for care.

In an increasingly isolated society, I completely understand the appeal of a cute, cuddly kitten. However, if you are not in the position to afford veterinary care for your new family member, it is in that cat's best interest that you seek out a local organization who will take the cat in, give them comprehensive veterinary care, and then find them a home.

Please STOP giving away kittens for free!

📢 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹! 🚨

This is valuable information from Johnson-Bennett of Cat Behavior Associates. If you see a cat panting, please attend to it right away as it may be in distress and critically ill or injured. Please get the animal help as quickly as possible!

We've had the displeasure of witnessing several panting cats in our time. One we'll never forget is a kitten that had been kicked, resulting in a broken spine. He had been panting before the vet humanely ended his suffering. Even though there were no outward signs of injury -- and it was not a hot day -- this kitten's panting told us that something was critically wrong. In our experience, more often than not, a panting cat is in need of immediate medical attention.🩺

We knew this😻

Cats may be more emotionally connected than they’re often given credit for.

Researchers found that most cats form secure attachments to their caregivers, similar to the bonds seen in infants and dogs. In the study, cats showed clear signs of comfort and trust when their humans were present, and mild stress when they were not.
The findings challenge the stereotype of cats as aloof, highlighting the quiet but meaningful bonds many share with their people. 🐱

It’s amazing how they will wait and wait, and as soon as they see your car…’oh, boy’! Our friend is finally here’! Bring on the noms! 😻
Really wish they wouldn’t run in front of the car, tho! 😹

🐾 The Cat Who Waited 🐾

Someone came.

Every evening, every morning, every storm, every holiday… someone came.

While most people never knew the cats were there, someone remembered them.

Someone filled the bowls.
Someone checked the shelters.
Someone worried when a cat was missing.
Someone spent their own time and money to make sure they weren’t forgotten.

The cats may never know our names, but they know who shows up.

They know the sound of the car.
They know the footsteps.
They know the person carrying the bucket.

This post is for every colony caretaker who keeps showing up, even when no one is watching.

❤️🐾 Because to a waiting cat, you are everything. 🐾❤️
