Today, SOS Community Services honors Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the freedom, resilience, and achievements of Black Americans.

As we reflect on our nation's history and the ongoing pursuit of equity and justice, we reaffirm our commitment to building a community where all individuals and families have the opportunity to thrive.

In observance of Juneteenth, SOS Community Services offices will be closed on Friday, June 19. We will resume normal business hours on Monday, June 22.

We wish everyone a meaningful Juneteenth as we take time to reflect, learn, and celebrate.

New Resource for Ypsilanti Renters!

The City of Ypsilanti has launched a new Citizen Rental Complaint Form, making it easier for renters to report hazardous or unsafe living conditions directly to city staff.

Residents submitting a complaint will be asked to provide their name, contact information, and a preferred date and time for a city inspector to visit the property.

Issues that can be reported include:
• No heat
• No water
• No electricity
• Vermin infestations
• Broken plumbing
• Missing or severely deteriorated steps
• Damaged interior walls
• Overflowing dumpsters or trash
• Properties without a rental certificate
• And other health and safety concerns

Safe, stable housing is essential for individuals and families to thrive. If you are experiencing unsafe housing conditions, this new tool can help connect you with city resources and support.

Learn more and submit a complaint through the City of Ypsilanti's website: https://bit.ly/4uGP77H

Happy World Bicycle Day! We're celebrating Joanna, one of our amazing SOS staff members, who regularly bikes to work!

World Bicycle Day is an opportunity to recognize the importance of safe, accessible biking infrastructure for everyone. For many of the families we serve at SOS, access to reliable transportation is critical for getting to work, school, healthcare appointments, grocery stores, and other essential services. Expanding safe biking and walking options helps remove barriers and creates more opportunities for people to thrive.

Thank you, Joanna, for leading by example and helping highlight the importance of transportation choices that support stronger communities.
