Hinoki Foundation

Hinoki Foundation The Hinoki Foundation was established to ensure the continuing operation of Japanese-English bilingual-education programs in the State of Michigan.

Hinoki Foundation (ひのきバイリンガル教育振興財団) promotes the development of bilingualism and multiculturalism among children, with a focus on the English-Japanese language pair. Originally a support organization for Hinoki International School, the mission of Hinoki Foundation soon evolved to embrace all educational programs that promote Japanese-English bilingualism and Japanese-American biculturalism to sch

oolchildren. As an independent public charity, Hinoki Foundation provides services to groups dedicated to the creation of globally minded individuals, through the development of language and multicultural skills.

Hinoki Foundation volunteers had a wonderful time this week leading STEM activities for 4th, 7th, & 8th graders studying Japanese at the Foreign Language Immersion and Cultural Studies School (FLICS) in Detroit! We appreciate the support of the STEM Education Institute at EMU. FLICS offers intensive language training in Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, and French, for students from kindergarten to 8th-grade. Thank you for having us! 🤩 🎊 🙌

Hinoki Foundation is excited to collaborate with Mott Community College to offer this new “Taste of Japan” day camp for youth in the Flint/Fenton/Lapeer areas! 🎉😊

NEW SUMMER CAMP!

Want to visit Japan but forgot to win the lottery? 🇯🇵✈️

Save the 14-hour flight and the middle-seat leg cramps. We’re bringing the Land of the Rising Sun right to Mott Community College this July!

If your kids (ages 7-18) are currently professional "scrollers" or think "culture" is just a type of yogurt, it’s time to level them up. We’re trading screen time for sushi rolling, brush calligraphy, and origami—where we’ll learn that folding paper is way harder (and more rewarding) than it looks.

The Deets:
Who: Kids & Teens (Ages 7–18)

When: * Session 1: July 7th – July 9th

Session 2: July 14th – July 16th

Choose Your Shift: * Morning: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm (Best for early birds)

Afternoon: 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm (Best for those who think 9 am is the middle of the night)

What’s on the Menu? (Literally):
🍳 Japanese Cooking: Learn to make something other than cereal.
✍️ Calligraphy & Origami: Finally, a reason to use that fancy paper for something other than a shopping list
🎤 Singing & Games: No prior Japanese language skills required. We won't judge your pronunciation—we're just here for the vibes.

How to Join the Squad:
Don’t wait until the spots are gone and you’re stuck listening to "I'm bored" all summer. Contact the wonderful Nicole Ball to get signed up:

📞 810.762.0961
📧 [email protected]

Parents: that’s three whole hours of peace and quiet. You’re welcome. 🍱🥢
