Let's give a standing ovation to Halie Schmidlin (she/her) for completing her four years of music therapy coursework at EMU! Halie will intern at Harmony Garden Music Therapy in Jackson, MI, where she'll learn to work in settings such as early childhood, IDD, the aging population, and sound healing and wellness.

Halie is a respected leader in our music therapy program and beyond. Halie is also an accomplished flautist who also enjoys playing the guitar. For fun, she enjoys making arts and crafts and hanging out with friends.

Halie learned about music therapy from a member of the EMU flute studio when she attended the EMU Winds and Percussion day in high school. Halie hails from New Baltimore, MI.

Congratulations, Halie!

It is with deep sadness that we grieve the loss of Prof. Jennifer Fisher, who passed away on Wednesday, March 18.

Prof. Fisher was a deeply loved and respected keyboard skills instructor by countless music therapy students. Her classes were known to be joyful, engaging, and empowering. Our deepest sympathies go to Prof. Fisher's family.

There is an emergent need for someone to sub for a music therapist for a kids grief support camp this coming Friday. It's an assist role (as far as I can tell). I'm afraid that's all the details I have at the moment. It is in Holly, MI. If you are interested and/or able. Please contact Dr. Merrill and I will put you in touch with the director. You can PM me Terra Merrill or email me at [email protected].

Congratulations to our EMU Music Therapy Class of 2024!

Our students, in the face of unprecedented challenges, engaged in clinical training before, during, and after the pandemic. They learned to adapt to countless changes and obstacles, demonstrating remarkable resilience and determination.

The Class of 2024 significantly impacted individuals and groups in our community who are marginalized and underrepresented.

They worked with individuals in settings such as forensic psychiatry, inpatient psychiatry, pediatric medicine, NICU, schools, skilled care, hospice, and community groups for people with Parkinson's disease, aphasia, and developmental disabilities, among others.

Congratulations, Class of 2024!

We are celebrating the success of American Mirror Project Music Therapy Symposium!

Our music therapy students created bold, beautiful musical responses to the question, "What does America mean to you?"

A deep bow to the Formosa Quartet for all their generous collaborative work with our students.

Below is our student Andrew Bedard performing his composition with the Quartet.
