📍 UPDATE – Genoa Remembrance Walk
May 29, 2026

Walkers will gather at 9:00 a.m. At the intersection of Highway 77 and L Avenue. The Genoa Remembrance Walk continues its journey of remembrance, honor, strength, and unity.

This walk is more than miles on a road—it is a powerful act of remembrance that honors the children who attended the Genoa U.S. Indian Industrial School and recognizes the resilience of Indigenous peoples and communities.

Tribal community members are encouraged to come out and show their support by waving, walking alongside, offering encouragement, or helping to uplift those participating in this meaningful journey.

The walk will resume Friday, May 29, 2026, at the intersection of Highway 77 and L Avenue, concluding in Macy at Little Warrior Park on the powwow grounds.

Every step taken honors sacrifice, resilience, and the legacy of those who came before us. Let us stand together as a community and continue carrying these stories forward for future generations.

Had a rain delay on Friday, still we are doing good on the miles. The plan is to take a break for the weekend. Might go out and walk for a few miles and get a little bit ahead of schedule.

Pipe Ceremony for MMIR

Today, we wear red.

May 5th is National MMIR Awareness Day. We recognize this day to honor our missing and murdered indigenous relatives and to stand in solidarity with the families who continue to seek answers, justice, and healing.

The statistics are a call to action: on some reservations, Indigenous women are murdered at rates more than 10 times the national average. For too long, these voices have been silenced. Today, we join our friends, relatives, and community to use our voice and increase awareness.

By wearing red and sharing their stories, we ensure our relatives are never forgotten, never invisible. How are you honoring MMIR today?
