If you want to enjoy the weather of this little "spring preview" we're having AND help SMLC with our continued efforts to foster habitat quality, you can do JUST THAT tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 28th) at LeFurge Woods Nature Preserve. From 10am - 1pm we'll be cutting and treating invasive shrubs in an area right next the first length of trail leading from the parking lot at 2452 N Prospect Rd, only 100 yards or so from the lot.

The soil may be quite wet in spots, so wear shoes that are waterproof and/or fine to get muddy. Otherwise, forecasts call for high 30's into 40's for the time period and no precipitation, so weather looks good. SMLC will provide cutting tools, but feel free to bring your own if desired.

The rescheduled date for Winter Walkabout is *TOMORROW* (Saturday) February 21st. While the previous date for this event was cancelled due to frigid temperatures and deep snow drifts on trails, the recent warmup will give us a whole new set of winter conditions to enjoy! It will be much warmer than it was on January 31st, but be advised that the trails may be VERY sloppy due to the rapid snow melt.

As before, this event will run from 1:15 - 3:45pm, starting at Superior Township Hall (3040 N. Prospect Rd, Superior Twp, MI) with some refreshments. At 2, we will set out onto the trails at Jack Smiley Nature Preserve which is right across the street! The hike will last 1 hour and 45 minutes and ultimately end back at Township hall. Donations are welcome; no pets please.

We are nearly done with 2025, and as we look back at the work we've accomplished this year, it's impossible not to be struck by the sheer importance of SMLC's volunteers. They've helped us with stewardship and habitat restoration, organizational operations, fundraising, outreach, planning, and a great many other things. To all volunteers, whether you've worked with us for a day or for decades, THANK YOU! The cause of conservation would not be possible without you.
