We have just about a week left before our night at the museum!

The Sloan Museum of Discovery is great any time you visit, but on August 28th, we will have some of it all to ourselves! Join us for our Flint Community Night from 6 - 8pm. We will have dinner together, an educational opportunity, and of course, time to explore the museum. We can't wait to see you !

We would like to share a unique opportunity coming to Grand Rapids in September.

Introducing Sibshop! These recreational peer support groups designed specifically for children and teenagers ages 6 to 17 who have a brother or sister with special medical, developmental, or intellectual needs.

For the adults who run them and for the agencies that sponsor them, Sibshops are evidence of their loving concern for the family member who will have the longest-lasting relationship with a person who has a disability. However, for the kids who attend them, Sibshops are lively, pedal-to-the-metal events where they will:
Meet other sibs (usually for the first time);
Have fun;
Talk about the good and not-so-good parts of having a sib with support needs with others who “get it”;
Play some great games;
Explore how other siblings handle sticky situations sometimes faced by sibs;
Laugh;
Learn about the services their brothers and sister receive; and
Have some more fun!

Sibshops are accepting new attendees and is also offering a Facilitator Training for adults looking to make an impact. Thursday August 27th, at 6:00 pm, we will host an Advocacy Webinar to discuss how recent Medicaid work requirement changes may impact access to care and considerations for people with bleeding disorders.

Leo Cuello, J.D. is a Research Professor at the Center for Children and Families in the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University focusing on Medicaid litigation, waivers, and work requirements.
